Keen Senses The fox has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight, hearing or smell.
Fade Away. At the end of its turn, the fox can turn invisible until the start of its next turn.
Innate Spellcasting. The fox’s spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 15). The fox can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: Mind Sliver, Minor Illusion
3/day: Misty Step
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) piercing damage.
Vanishing Gaze. The fox's eyes and the gem on its forehead glow and focus on up to 3 objects or creatures within 30 ft. The gem emits a soft teal pulse in the direction of the targets, turning them invisible. A creature can succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw to resist the effect. Anything an affected creature is wearing or carrying becomes invisible for the duration as well, as long as it is on the creature’s person. A creature can attack, cast spells, and take damage while invisible from Vanishing Gaze. The effect ends if the targets are more than 120ft of the fox or if the fox loses concentration on Vanishing Gaze (as if concentrating on a spell).
Gem Surge (3/Day). The gem in the fox's head surges with power. The fox casts Mind Sliver.
Skirmisher. The fox is difficult to pin down during a fight. It can move up to half its speed as a reaction when an enemy ends its turn within 5 feet of the fox. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks.
Description
This oversized, mischievous fox is a scout of the forest, secretly watching over its home and its inhabitants. It is hunted for the magical gem in its head, so it typically avoids contact with most creatures unless it is protecting the woods or looking for food. When doing so, it will turn itself and its prey invisible, potentially singling out a member from a group. Its magic eyes allow it to stalk its target covertly and alone.
Abuto Foxes tend to wander throughout the woods, but will stop and form small families when mating, keeping their young invisible almost constantly until they grow gems of their own. Adolescents often play tricks on creatures and adventurers, turning them or their things invisible and guiding them out of the forest. Troublesome foxes will even cause trees, rocks, and other hazards to vanish causing unwelcome creatures to stumble into traps, of sorts. The more mature foxes become recluses and spend their days hidden deep in the woods, growing their magical abilities.
