Cling. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or have the Boombug latch onto them. The Boombug cannot willingly detach itself from a creature, and when a creature the Boombug is latched onto moves, the Boombug moves with it. During each of that creature's turns, that creature may spend an action to make a DC 13 Athletics or Acrobatics check (creature's choice) to shake the Boombug off of it.
Explode. If the Boombug is latched onto a creature, the Boombug explodes, causing the Boombug to die and the creature the Boombug was latched onto to make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw. That creature takes 22 (4d10) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
Description
A Boombug is a large insect that looks similar to a ladybug. While juvenile Boombugs are roughly a centimeter long, adult Boombugs can grow from anywhere between 20 and 30 centimeters long.
Juvenile Boombugs can be distinguished by their unique green head and thorax and red abdomen, while adult Boombugs have a red head and thorax and black abdomen. An adult Boombug is commonly mistaken to be an oversized ladybug due to their similar colors.
Boombugs are passive creatures that live in colonies, choosing to eat leaves off of most types of deciduous trees, and usually only attack when provoked or when they perceive there to be a danger to their colony.
The legs of a Boombug are considered a delicacy in many different regions, tasting almost like pork, with a crunchy exterior and a juicy inside, as the legs of a Boombug is where a Boombug stores most of its moisture.
