Cut the Lights! (3/Day). If Anvillax fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead. When they do, a spotlight is extinguished.
Fashion Sense. Anvillax knows when a valuable accessory or outfit is being worn within 120 ft. of her.
Stunning Visage. Anvillax's AC includes her charisma modifier.
Multiattack. Anvillax can use Blue Magnum or So Last Season. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 7) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) lightning damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 7) slashing damage.
Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage.
Blue Magnum. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed for 1 minute. A creature charmed in this way stands staring transfixed at Anvillax. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to Anvillax's Blue Magnum for the next 24 hours.
Lightning Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales lightning in a 90-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 66 (12d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
So Last Season (8th Level Spell). Anvillax banishes a creature to a demiplane containing a magical wardrobe. They remain there until at least ten minutes have passed or until they change their outfit, whereupon they return to the closest unoccupied space.
Work it, Darling! A creature charmed by Anvillax uses their reaction to move a distance equal to their movement speed in a direction of her choice and strikes a dramatic pose.
Spotlight! When a creature Anvillax can see within 60 feet of her uses their action or bonus action to cast a spell, Anvillax calls a pillar of light upon them, forcing them to make a DC 19 saving throw using their spellcasting ability or become frightened with stage fright and is unable to cast spells until the end of their turn, but the spell slot is not expended and the action is not lost. Anvillax must have at least one spotlight to use this feature.
Villain Actions
Anvillax has 3 villain actions, choosing from the options below. She can take each action once per encounter after a creature's turn. She can use the actions in any order, but only once per round.
Action 1: Places, people. Places! Anvillax calls down three spotlights to locations she can see within 500 ft. Each spotlight is a 100 ft. long cylinder with a 15 ft. radius. Creatures within each spotlight gain vulnerability to lightning damage if they are not immune, and must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened on a failure. Spotlights emit bright light for 30 ft. and dim light for an additional 30 ft., and dispel magical darkness. The spotlights last until combat ends or if they are extinguished.
Action 2: Fashion and Function. Anvillax's ornaments and clothing arcs with electricity, and gains the following benefits until the end of her next turn.
- Whenever a creature hits Anvillax with a melee attack, they take 12 (2d10) lightning damage.
- She gains advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects, and resistance to all damage from spells.
- She can teleport to a spotlight as a bonus action, gaining 66 (12d10) temporary hit points.
Action 3: Curtain Call. Anvillax strikes a pose and unleashes a massive shockwave of electricity and light. Each enemy who can see her must make a DC 19 Wisdom Saving throw. On a failed save, they take 66 (12d10) lightning damage and become blinded. On a success, they take half as much damage and are not blinded
Description
An invitation to the most exclusive fashion show in all the realms flutters down before you.
Even among dragons, Anvillax is an eccentric. She parades about in facsimiles of mortal clothes, makeup, and jewelry. Only the finest of haute couture is worthy of adorning her elegant frame. Beauty, by her estimation, is only worth anything if it is seen. Thus, her fashions shows attract attention from extraplanar entities, royalty, and other legendary beings who she thinks might appreciate some proper aesthetic.
The Finest Audience. Anvillax's shows attract attention from all sorts - from mortal royalty to extraplanar entities. Her invitations could find their way to just about anywhere in the planes, so long as she thinks the recipient might appreciate her brand of aesthetic. Especially common are archfey, devils, and genies - it's just as likely for mortal nobility to show off their extravagant wealth as it is for eldritch deals to be brokered among her audience.
Elite Models. Anvillax frequently gathers her models, willing or not, from among mortals. Her selection process is seemingly random - she claims to gather them based on aesthetic appeal. She is just as likely to grab an elf socialite as she is a goblin blacksmith. While her models usually come and go unharmed, she promises them great rewards from her hoard if the win her favor before a panel of judges (usually including herself and some guests.)
Creative Cadre. Anvillax employs a small army of Kobold Gemists, Ogre Beauticians, and Bathing Oozes to help her models dress up and to ensure her wardrobe is flawless. While they are primarily responsible for ensuring that her lair is presentable and her outfits are on point, they also see to the needs of any models and distinguished guests. Most of her employees are non-combatants, and will flee if engaged.
Quest Hooks
Adventures surrounding Anvillax are not typically those that end in combat. While she is a fearsome opponent, most adventurers who cross paths with her find it far easier to play along rather than try and mess up her show.
Kidnapping Victim. Anvillax has taken either a player character or someone significant to one of the player characters, and they are being forced to participate in her fashion show. A typical fashion show consists of four rounds, including a fashion walk, a swimsuit competition, a talent show, and interviews. If the players decide to participate, encourage them to be creative in their approach. The top 3 performers are typically entitled to a draconic boon (see Fizban's Treasury of Dragons) or a magic item from her hoard.
By Invitation Only. A powerful NPC the players wish to reach is only available via Anvillax's fashion show. This might be a villain they're seeking to thwart, a powerful noble they need to parley with, or an NPC who has something the party needs. Violent player characters beware, Anvillax does not like when her show is interrupted..
Custom Ordered. The party receives a request from a mysterious patron to deliver some rare or valuable materials - it might be exotic clothing, raw or uncut gemstones, or magical makeup, but a band of thieves has gotten a tip about the expensive delivery as well.
Hoard
Anvillax's Hoard is a wealth of fashion items. She's sunk hundreds of thousands of gold pieces assembling exquisite outfits, exotic makeups, absurd wigs, and glittering accessories. She keeps a modest display hoard with about 25,000 gp at any given time beneath a layer of crystalline glass just under the catwalk where her fashion shows are performed, but her true wealth is spread throughout her lair in various wardrobes.
Thieves may have a difficult time fencing the various items (who else but Anvillax would even buy high fashion in these quantities?) but it is not without some rare finds. Those who win her fashion contest or try to plunder her hoard may find some of the following items:
- 4000 cp worth of peasant clothes and costumes
- 17,000 sp worth of miscellaneous wigs.
- 32,000 gp worth of high fashion outfits, regalia, long robes, etc.
- 3600 pp worth of Makeup and accessories (rings, chokers, etc.)
- Marvelous Pigments
- dragonhide belt
- scaled ornament (wakened)
Lair and Lair Actions
Anvillax's lair is comprised of a crystalline network of caves that spiral towards a grand theater. Chambers include changing rooms, salons, and clothiers. She prefers to fill her lair with sycophants and minions that help her either collect aesthetically pleasing things for her next show or who can augment her models.
Anvillax's Hoard is comprised of high quality gemstones, fashion items, latest trendy clothes, rare makeups, perfumes, and wigs.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- A spotlight shines on a location within Anvillax's lair. Creatures within the spotlight must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened, vulnerable to lightning damage, and their move speed becomes 0 for as long as they remain within the spotlight.
- Light refracts from crystalline walls. Each creature within 5 ft. of a wall must make a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or become blinded for one round.
- A magical wardrobe appears at a location within 500 ft. of Anvillax. Creatures within 15 ft. of the wardrobe must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed, compelled to use their action to try on outfits within.
Regional Effects
The region containing a legendary blue dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:
- Flora and Fauna become more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
- Advertisements for Anvillax's next fashion show will occasionally rain from the sky.
- Crystalline structures sprout from stone and earth, creating mirrors for creatures to admire themselves.
If Anvillax dies, changes to flora and fauna will fade over the next 1d10 days. The crystal mirrors remain.
