Innate Spellcasting (Psionics). The Vanity Moth’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 18). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Psychic Cloak. As a bonus action, the Vanity Moth can surround itself with a shimmering aura of mental energy, becoming invisible for 1 minute. The effect ends if the Vanity Moth attacks or casts a spell.

Mind Control Aura. At the start of each of its turns, each creature of the Vanity Moth’s choice within 30 feet of it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by the Vanity Moth for 1 minute. A charmed target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Vanity Moth’s Mind Control Aura for the next 24 hours.

Illusory Presence. The Vanity Moth can project an image of itself to any location within 120 feet that it can see. As long as it maintains concentration, the projection can move and act as if it were real (though it cannot cause harm). The Vanity Moth can see through the projection’s eyes and hear through its ears. The Vanity Moth can switch between perceiving through its own senses and through the projection’s senses on its turn (no action required). The projection lasts for 1 hour or until dismissed.

Actions

Multiattack. The Vanity Moth makes two Mind Lash attacks.

Mind Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) psychic damage. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Intelligence saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Psychic Scream (Recharge 5–6). The Vanity Moth emits a burst of psychic energy. Each creature within 60 feet of the Vanity Moth must make a DC 18 Intelligence saving throw, taking 45 (10d8) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If a target fails the saving throw by 5 or more, it is also paralyzed for 1 minute. The paralyzed target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Legendary Actions

The Vanity Moth can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Vanity Moth regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Psychic Pulse. The Vanity Moth targets one creature within 60 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Intelligence saving throw or take 14 (4d6) psychic damage and be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Fade Away. The Vanity Moth turns invisible until the start of its next turn.

Disorienting Illusion (Costs 2 Actions). The Vanity Moth creates a mind-bending illusion in a 30-foot radius centered on a point it can see within 60 feet. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become confused (as if under the confusion spell) for 1 minute. The confused target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Description

The Vanity Moth is a malevolent psionic creature, capable of overwhelming the minds of its enemies with illusions and mental domination. It is as beautiful as it is deadly, using its allure and mind-controlling abilities to turn allies against one another or make them willingly fall under its control. Despite its delicate appearance, the Vanity Moth can protect itself through potent psychic attacks and its mastery over illusions.
