Traits

Innate Spellcasting. Azax's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 26). He can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: fireball, invisibility (self only), lightning bolt, wall of fire

3/day each: blade barrier, dispel evil and good, finger of death

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Azax fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. Azax has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Warforged Resilience. If damage reduces Azax to 0 hit points, he must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to the damage taken, unless the damage is from a critical hit. On a success, Azax drops to 15 hit points instead.

Actions

Multiattack. Azax attacks twice with his Hell-forged Claws and once with Incus. He can substitute Forge's Gasp for Incus.

Hell-forged Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 8) slashing damage plus 36 (8d8) fire damage.

Incus (Warhammer). Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 8) bludgeoning damage, or 19 (2d10 + 8) bludgeoning damage when used with two hands, plus 36 (8d8) fire damage. In addition, the weapon emits a burst of foul energy that deals 10 (3d6) necrotic damage to each creature within 30 feet of it.

Forge's Gasp (Recharge 5–6). Azax spews poisonous soot in a 20 ft. cone. Each creature in the cone must succeed on a DC 26 Constitution saving throw or take 44 (8d10) necrotic damage, gain one level of exhaustion, and be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the target is also blinded. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Legendary Actions

Azax-Azog can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Azax regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Attack. Azax makes an attack with any of his weapons.

Reposition. Azax flies up to his speed in any direction without provoking opportunity attacks.

Spellcasting. Azax casts a spell.

Description

Azax-Azog is one of the seven Steel Thanes, and the contender to take Sheoldred's place as their leader. His work has exhumed one of Urabrask's forges, and under his guidance it may be reignited and supply weapons and warmachines to Phyrexia's cause.

Incus. Even without a working forge, Azax has been creating weaponry to outfit his followers. One such weapon is Incus, a massive warhammer than is infused with Phyrexian Oil. Each blow vaporizes some of this oil, creating a cloud of poison that infects those around Azax.
