Charter Magic. The Abhorsen is a 11th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit with spell attacks). The Abhorsen has the following spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will): light, sacred flame, thaumaturgy
1st level (4 slots): cure wounds, guiding bolt, sanctuary, Magic Missile, Shield, Mage Armor
2nd level (3 slots): lesser restoration, spiritual weapon, Branding Smite, Calm Emotions
3rd level (3 slots): dispel magic, spirit guardians, Counterspell, Daylight, Blinding Smite
4th level (2 slots): Banishment, Divination
5th level (2 slots): Commune, Contact Other Plane, Dawn
Bandolier of the Abhorsen (4/day). On each turn as an action or bonus action, the Abhorsen can use its signature magically imbued bells to cast the associated spell or effect.
1. Ranna - cast Sleep as its 9th level version. Humanoids and undead in the area of effect automatically fall asleep for 1d6 rounds.
2. Mosrael - cast Revivify, or Animate Dead, or Raise Dead; bypassing material components.
3. Kibeth - self-casts Haste, or Freedom of Movement. The Abhorsen doesn't need to concentrate on this effect.
4. Dyrim - casts Speak with Dead, or Tongues, or Comprehend Languages.
5. Belgaer - casts both Greater Restoration and Remove Curse on a single creature. After using this, the Abhorsen makes a Performance check, DC16 and on a fail becomes stunned for 1 minute.
6. Saraneth - cast Dominate Person
7. Astarael - cast Power Word Kill on all creatures within 60 feet of the Abhorsen.
Charter Smite. As a bonus action, the Abhorsen can expend a spell slot to cause its melee weapon attacks to magically deal an extra 10 (3d6) radiant damage to a target on a hit. This benefit lasts until the end of the turn. If the Abhorsen expends a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the extra damage increases by 1d12 for each level above 1st.
Mark of the Charter. The Abhorsen has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. It also has resistance to damage from spells.
Description
The Abhorsen are those of the Five Great Charters hereditary bloodline whose charge is maintaining the border between Life and Death. However, inheritance is not always direct: the next Abhorsen could be a niece, cousin, sibling, or other relative of the current Abhorsen, rather than their child.
They are the only Charter bloodline whose contributor is known: Astarael. The bindings on her well can only be removed with the breath "of her children," those with Abhorsen blood.
