Caught. If the Ancient Oseros has it's prey entagled in it's tendrils then it automatically hits on it's bite attack.

Hardened Carapace. After evolving to it's dessolet, rocky habitat the ossoeros has developed a hard but brittle carapace. Resistance to slashing and pericingdamage. Over many years, the plates of this old creature have interlocked and thickened leading to very little weakness.

Spellcasting. None

Actions

Grab. The Ancient Oseros can forgo attacking with any/all of it's trendils to instead grab a target within 25ft. The target must succed on a DEX(acrobatics)STR(athletics) -2 test or be grappled by the Ancient Oseros.

Multiattack. The Ancient Oseros makes as many attacks as it has free trendrils, choosing to either whip or bite: free trendrils cannot target the same creature as a trendril bite. The Ancient Oseros may also choose to try and rip apart one creature that it has grappled using all of it's trendrils, leaving none free.

Trendril Bite. Melee attack weapon: -1 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 8 (1d12 + 2) [piercing, crushing] damage, the target must make a DC 14 CON saving throw or take 6(1d8 + 2) poison/ acid damage.

Trendril Whip. Melee attack weapon: +2 to hit, reach 25ft., up to 6 targets. Hit: (5 (1d10)) x 6 [Blugeoning] damage.

Rip & Tear. Melee attack weapon: target must be grappled by the Ancient Oseros, 1 target. 30 (5d10) damage, if the target makes a DC 18 CON saving throw then the damage is halved.

Sludge Deluge. Range area attack weapon:  10ft circle, reach 30ft., any creature inside takes 6(1d8 +2) poison/ acid damage and it poisoned/ covered in acid for 3 turns, half damage on and no dot effect on a passed CON -2 saving throw.

Bonus Actions

If the Ancient Oseros succesfully grapples a target with a trendil then it can use the Bite. action on that target as a bonus action.

Reactions

Flail. The Ancient Oseros wildly flings it's free trendrils around itself in order to protect from range attacks, on a succesfull DEX saving throw the projectile is deflected.

Ball. The Ancient Oseros drops all grappled creatures and protectively wraps itself in it's trendril, increasing it's aormour class by +2 until it's next turn or it is forcibly unwrapped.

Burrow. If the Ancient Oseros if reduced to 10 hit points or less then it will attempt to burrow and retreat to fight another day, (DEX saving throw.)

Description

Overall Aesthetic:

The Ancient Oseros, commonly know as a BoneReaper.

Through either luck or tenacity this Oseros has managed to survive it's brutal environment for long enough to achive a truly terrifying size.

For a full description, search Oseros in the D&D Beyond Homebrew Monsters.

Physical Appearance:

  • Size: They can vary in size, depending on age and abudance of food but typically reach sizes of 3-5 meter (10-16 feet) long, making it considerably larger than a younger oseros and a might terrestrial predator.

  • Tendrils: Due to it's increased size it has grown several new tendrils to icrease it's feeding capacity.

  • Skin: The translucent, jelly-like skin has darkened as it's carapace has thicken over the years, only really visable during movement when the scales of it's armour are pressed.

  • Head: The Ancient Oseros has still not developed a head although the now numerous barbs and hooks in the wrasping end of the trendils resemble a horendous spirilling conveour (a cross between a mining drilling bit and a lamprey).

Habitat:

  • Desolate and Arid Regions: This creature inhabits dry, rocky mountain ranges, windswept plains, or desert areas where bones from dead animals can sit undisturbed for long periods. It would avoid densely populated ecosystems, instead finding its niche in remote locations where food is scarce and survival depends on scavenging.

Behavior:

  • Slow and Methodical: It moves slowly, spending long periods attached to a skeleton, digesting it over time. It is frequently encountered near animal graveyards or battle sites, where carcasses are plentiful.

  • Hunting: To avoid predators or harsher daylight conditions in a desolate environment, some Oseros adapted more nocturnal behaviours. In their enlarged form this has resultedin them incorperating the role of an ambush predator, although scavenging is still a observed when prey is sacres.

Symbiotic Relationships:

  • Metal-dissolving Bacteria: The Ancient Oseros have grown so accustomed to the symbiotic bacteria within its body that they able to produce large about of highly poisonious and corrosive sludge, which can be seen oozing out of the trendrils.
