Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/day). If Bohrnag fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Soul Shredder. When Bohrnag kills a creature, he can instantly devour part of its soul, healing himself for 30 hit points. The consumed soul is trapped within Bohrnag and can only be freed if he is destroyed.

Might over mind. All of Bohrnag’s weapon attacks are considered magical. When Bohrnag hits a creature with a weapon attack, it deals an additional 4d6 psychic damage.

Aura of Dread (Recharge 5-6). Bohrnag exudes an aura of fear within a 30-foot radius. Each creature within that area must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Mythic Trait: Descent into Madness. When Bohrnag is reduced to 0 hit points for the first time, he does not fall unconscious. Instead, his body transforms, and his eyes begin to glow with a chaotic madness. His hit points reset to 250, and he gains the following benefits:

  • His attacks deal an additional 15 (3d6) force damage.
  • He has one additional legendary action point each round.
  • He gains immunity to Psychic and Force damage.

Once Bohrnag activates Descent into Madness, he can use his Mythic Actions.

Actions

Multiattack. Bohrnag makes two attacks: one with his claws and one with his bite.

Claw of the Reaper. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 28 (4d10 + 7) slashing damage, plus 14 (4d6) psychic damage.

Maw of the Abyss. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 36 (5d12 + 7) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) psychic damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 21). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and Bohrnag cannot use Maw of the Abyss on another target.

Abyssal Burst (Recharge 5–6). Bohrnag releases a blast of shadowy energy in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw, taking 66 (12d10) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Bonus Actions

Psychic Pulse. Bohrnag sends out a pulse of force energy in a 15-foot radius. Each creature within the radius must make a DC 21 Constitution saving throw or take 14 (4d6) psychic damage. Bohrnag regains hit points equal to the total damage dealt.

Reactions

Abyssal Retaliation. When a creature hits Bohrnag with an attack, he can use his reaction to release a burst of psychic energy. The attacker must make a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw or take 22 (4d10) psychic damage and be knocked prone.

Legendary Actions

(Legendary action points: 3) Bohrnag can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. He regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Move. Bohrnag moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Shadow Slash. Bohrnag makes a Claw of the Reaper attack.

Devour Soul (Costs 2 Actions). Bohrnag attempts to consume the soul of a creature he has reduced to 0 hit points within the last round. The creature must succeed on a DC 21 Charisma saving throw or be consumed, and Bohrnag regains 30 hit points.

Mythic Actions

If Bohrnag’s mythic trait is active, he can use the options below as legendary actions for 1 hour after using Descent into Madness.

Soul Rend (Costs 2 Actions). Bohrnag makes a Maw of the Abyss attack, and if the target is reduced to 0 hit points, Bohrnag devours its soul and regains 40 hit points.

Abyssal Rush (Costs 3 Actions). Bohrnag charges forward up to 40 feet in a straight line. Each creature in his path must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking 35 (10d6) force damage and being knocked prone on a failed save.

Description

Bohrnag in his lesser form retains much of his terrifying power, though he is not the same near-godlike being as he once was. This lesser incarnation is still a force to be reckoned with, his massive form exuding dread and destruction wherever he treads. With his monstrous claws and his ability to consume the very souls of his enemies, Bohrnag's presence on the battlefield signals inevitable death and despair. His ultimate form is a reflection of his descent into madness, where his raw power grows uncontrollably, and only the strongest adventurers can hope to survive..

Lair and Lair Actions

While Bohrnag is in his lair, he can use lair actions. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Bohrnag takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; he can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  1. Abyssal Rift: Bohrnag tears open a rift in the fabric of reality. A 20-foot radius of shadowy energy appears within 120 feet of him. Any creature that enters the area for the first time or starts its turn there must succeed on a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw or be sucked into the rift and take 33 (6d10) force damage. The rift remains until the next lair action.

  2. Soul Drain: Bohrnag reaches into the spiritual energy of the lair itself. Every non-Aberration creature within 120 feet of Bohrnag must make a DC 21 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 44 (8d10) psychic damage and Bohrnag regains hit points equal to half the total damage dealt.

  3. Summon Shadows: Bohrnag calls forth 2 Voidrend horrors which appear within 60 feet of Bohrnag. These creatures are loyal to Bohrnag and obey his commands. They vanish when reduced to 0 hit points or when Bohrnag uses this lair action again.
