Description
Gromph was austere yet handsome. He had amber eyes, like his daughter Liriel. Despite his old age (he was old even by elven standards), Gromph appeared eternally youthful due to the effects of a magical amulet in his possession, that contained a piece of a unicorn's horn. As a powerful spellcaster and the archmage of the city, Gromph almost always wore the Robe of the Archmage of Menzoberranzan, a ceremonial garment that was heavily enchanted. He also displayed the badge of House Baenre at all times.
Gromph as a Mythic Encounter
Gromph is a formidable enemy under normal circumstances, but to give characters a truly mythic challenge, you can have him call on his Armor of Spiders. His use of this trait signals a drastic turn in the encounter, as Gromph summons demonic spiders to protect him. While he has temporary hit points from this trait, he can choose one of his mythic actions when he uses a legendary action.
Read or paraphrase the following text when Gromph uses his Armor of Spiders trait:
A tear in reality opens when you hear a nightmarish arachnid shriek that sounds like a thousand spider carapaces scarring slate. In response, from the tear revealing itself a wave of countless spiders. The tiny arachnids swarm the wizard, girding him in skittering bodies.
Fighting Gromph as a mythic encounter is equivalent to taking on two challenge rating 24 creatures in one encounter. Award a party 124,000 XP for defeating Gromph after he uses Armor of Spiders.
