Incorporeal Movement. The Voidclasp Wraith can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.

Soul Drain (Recharge 5-6). When the Voidclasp Wraith deals necrotic damage to a creature, it regains hit points equal to half the damage dealt. If it reduces a creature to 0 hit points with this attack, the creature's soul is trapped within the Voidclasp Wraith and cannot be revived until the wraith is destroyed.

Dreadful Presence. Each creature of the Voidclasp Wraith's choice within 30 feet of it and aware of it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Voidclasp Wraith’s Dreadful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Eclipsing Aura (Recharge 6). As a bonus action, the Voidclasp Wraith can emit an aura of magical darkness in a 20-foot radius. The area is heavily obscured for all creatures except the wraith, who can see as if in dim light. The aura lasts for 1 minute or until the wraith chooses to end it as a bonus action.

Actions

Multiattack. The Voidclasp Wraith makes two Claw attacks.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 5) necrotic damage.

Void Grasp. Ranged Spell Attack: +10 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 26 (6d6 + 4) necrotic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or its Strength score is reduced by 1d4. This reduction lasts until the creature finishes a short or long rest. If this reduces the target’s Strength to 0, it dies.

Wail of the Abyss (Recharge 6). The Voidclasp Wraith releases a terrifying wail. Each creature within 30 feet of it that can hear the wail must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 40 (9d8) necrotic damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not stunned.

Bonus Actions

Soul Shackle

The Voidclasp Wraith targets a creature it can see within 60 feet that has been reduced to 0 hit points but is not yet dead. The creature must succeed on a DC 18 Charisma saving throw or become bound by the wraith's will. The creature rises as a specter (using the Specter stat block) under the Voidclasp Wraith's control for 1 hour, after which it crumbles into dust. The Voidclasp Wraith can control up to two specters at a time.

Reactions

Evasive Shift

Trigger: The Voidclasp Wraith is hit by an attack.

Effect: The Voidclasp Wraith momentarily becomes fully incorporeal. It reduces the damage from the triggering attack by half and can immediately move up to 20 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. If it moves into an object or through a creature during this reaction, it can attempt to hide as a bonus action, using its Stealth skill against the Perception of those around it.

Legendary Actions

The Voidclasp Wraith can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Voidclasp Wraith regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Fading Step. The wraith moves up to half its flying speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
  • Necrotic Touch (Costs 2 Actions). The wraith makes one Claw attack.
  • Shadow Meld (Costs 3 Actions). The wraith becomes invisible until the start of its next turn or until it attacks.

Description

The Voidclasp Wraith is a manifestation of pure dread, a being formed from the remnants of forgotten souls. Appearing as a shadowy figure cloaked in billowing darkness, its form is indistinct, flickering between corporeal and ethereal. Its malevolent presence drains the life and strength of those nearby, and its soul-devouring abilities make it one of the most feared undead horrors.
