Traits

Void Aura. The Abbot emits an aura of Void energy in a 20-foot radius. Creatures that start their turn within this area must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (3d6) psychic damage and have disadvantage on Wisdom and Charisma saving throws until the start of their next turn.

Planar Walker. The Abbot can move across the boundaries of planes as if under the Etherealness spell (no action required). Additionally, the Abbot can see creatures on the Ethereal Plane while on the Material Plane.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Abbot fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The Abbot makes two Void Touch attacks and can use one Void Rift if available.

Void Touch. Melee Spell Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (4d8) necrotic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or be cursed. While cursed, the target has disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls for 1 minute. The curse ends early if the Abbot dies or if the Remove Curse spell is cast on the target.

Void Rift (Recharge 5–6). The Abbot opens a tear in the fabric of reality within 60 feet of itself. Each creature within 20 feet of the rift must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 35 (10d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The rift pulls all creatures within 10 feet of it 5 feet closer to its center.

Anathema of Boundaries (Recharge 5–6).. The Abbot weakens planar boundaries within a 30-foot radius, causing creatures from other planes to briefly appear. Each creature of the Abbot’s choice within the area must make a DC 19 Charisma saving throw or be restrained by planar energy for 1 minute. While restrained, creatures are surrounded by a faint, otherworldly light that distorts their form, causing disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws. A restrained creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Legendary Actions

The Abbot can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Abbot regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Plane Shift Pull (Costs 1 Action). The Abbot attempts to shift a creature within 30 feet of itself into a neighboring plane. The target must succeed on a DC 19 Charisma saving throw or be pulled partially into another plane, taking 14 (4d6) psychic damage and becoming stunneduntil the end of its next turn.

Echo of the Void (Costs 2 Actions). The Abbot summons a ghostly echo from the Void that attacks one creature within 60 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or take 22 (4d10) psychic damage and be frightened until the end of its next turn.

Planar Warp (Costs 3 Actions). The Abbot warps the area around it in a 30-foot radius, causing creatures to feel disoriented. Each creature in this area must make a DC 19 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is poisoned until the end of its next turn, and its speed is halved.

Description

This particular Abbot of Silence, known as the Abbot of Shattered Boundaries, is unlike other Abbots, who simply aim to bring the Void to the Material Plane, this Abbot’s goal is to obliterate the boundaries between all planes, collapsing the multiverse into chaos and pure Void energy.

Personality and Motivation

The Abbot of Shattered Boundaries is fanatical yet intellectual, seeing themselves as a seer of the true state of the cosmos. They believe the separation between planes is a temporary illusion, and by shattering these boundaries, they will return the multiverse to its original, unified form—an existence of pure Void. Driven, patient, and methodical, they view chaos as liberation and believe that they are freeing all beings from the prison of existence.

Methods and Powers

To break the planes, the Abbot has become a master of planar magic, blending conjuration, abjuration, and necromancy. They have spent years gathering forbidden lore and relics, creating arcane devices that weaken the walls between worlds.

Do you feel it? The fraying of reality around us... Soon, all things will slip through the cracks, to become one with the Great Void.

-The Abbot

Lair and Lair Actions

The lair of the Abbot of Shattered Boundaries is an otherworldly sanctum shaped by his connection to the Void, filled with an atmosphere that evokes dread and disorientation. It is a place where the boundary between the Material Plane and other realms is thin, with reality itself seeming to fracture and bleed into otherworldly landscapes.

When fighting within its lair, the Abbot can invoke the ambient Void energy to take lair actions. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Abbot can take one lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Abbot can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

Plane Shift Flicker. The Abbot temporarily shifts all creatures within the lair partially out of sync with the Material Plane. Each creature other than the Abbot must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or be blinded and deafened until the end of its next turn.

Unnatural Gravity. Gravity shifts unpredictably in the lair. Each creature within 30 feet of the Abbot must succeed on a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone as they are pulled in random directions.

Whispers from Beyond. The Abbot summons faint whispers from the Void. Each creature within 60 feet of the Abbot that can hear these whispers must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of its next turn. While frightened, the creature also takes 5 (1d10) psychic damage at the start of its turn.

Regional Effects

The region containing the Abbot of Shattered Boundaries’ lair is warped by its presence, which creates one or more of the following effects:

Planar Bleed: The boundaries between planes are thin, and random elements from other planes bleed through. For example, patches of Feywild flora, Shadowfell mists, or fiendish embers may appear.

Unnatural Silence: Sounds are muffled within a mile of the lair, and creatures feel a persistent sense of unease.

Distorted Reflections: Reflections in water or mirrors occasionally show glimpses of other planes, including eerie landscapes and otherworldly creatures.

If the Abbot dies, these effects fade over 1d10 days.
