Traits

Hive Mind. The Blighted Dune Beetle shares a hive mentality with other Blighted creatures, allowing them to coordinate attacks. If one Blighted creature is aware of a hostile creature, all others in the hive mind are also aware.

Death Burst. When the Blighted Dune Beetle reaches 0 HP, it releases a burst of blighted spores. Each creature within 5 feet must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or take 4 (1d8) necrotic damage and be infected with the Blighted Scourge.

Blighted Scourge. Natural weapon attacks by the Blighted Dune Beetle can infect creatures with the Blighted Scourge. A creature hit by the Blighted Dune Beetle’s attack must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or contract the Blighted Scourge.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be infected with the Blighted Scourge.

Sand Spray (Recharge 5-6). The Blighted Dune Beetle sprays sand in a 10-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.

Description

Small but unnervingly aggressive, the Blighted Dune Beetle is a relentless scavenger of the desert. Its hardened carapace is streaked with dark veins of blighted energy, and its mandibles drip with a necrotic ooze that spreads the Blighted Scourge. Traveling in swarms, these beetles burrow beneath the sands, lying in wait before ambushing unsuspecting prey. When slain, they burst in a noxious explosion of blighted spores, ensuring their corruption lingers even in death.
