Traits

Hive Mind. The Blighted Dune Beetle Leader shares a hive mentality with other Blighted creatures, allowing them to coordinate attacks. If one Blighted creature is aware of a hostile creature, all others in the hive mind are also aware.

Death Burst. When the Blighted Dune Beetle Leader reaches 0 HP, it releases a burst of blighted spores. Each creature within 5 feet must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or take 5 (1d10) necrotic damage and be infected with the Blighted Scourge.

Blighted Scourge. Natural weapon attacks by the Blighted Dune Beetle Leader can infect creatures with the Blighted Scourge. A creature hit by the Blighted Dune Beetle Leader’s attack must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or contract the Blighted Scourge.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or be infected with the Blighted Scourge.

Commanding Buzz (Recharge 5-6). The Blighted Dune Beetle Leader emits a low, vibrating buzz, rallying nearby blighted beetles. Each allied Blighted Dune Beetle within 20 feet of the Leader gains advantage on its next attack roll until the end of its next turn.

Description

Larger and more intelligent than its lesser kin, the Blighted Dune Beetle Leader acts as a rallying force for blighted insect hordes. Its body exudes a pulsating, sickly light, signaling nearby Blighted Dune Beetles into coordinated attacks. The leader’s sharp mandibles and toxic bite make it a threat on its own, but its true danger lies in the eerie vibrating hum it emits—empowering its swarm with unnatural aggression.
