Traits

Keen Smell. The Wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Mimicry. The wendigo can mimic animal sounds and humanoid voices. A creature that hears the sounds can tell they are imitations with a successful DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check.

Masks of the Wild. The wendigo can attempt to hide even when it is only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, or other natural phenomena.

Ambusher. The wendigo has advantage on attack rolls against any creature it has surprised.

Rejuvenation. If the wendigo's heart is not burned, it regains its body in 1d4 days, regaining all its hit points and becoming active again.

Pounce. If the wendigo moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

----

Legendary Resistance (2/Day). If the Wendigo fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The wendigo makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws. If it can, wendigo uses its Howl of Hunger instead of a Bite attack.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d4+4) piercing damage plus 14 (3d6) necrotic damage.
The Wendigo regains hit points equal to the amount of necrotic damage dealt.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage plus 4 (1d6) cold damage.

Howl of Hunger (Recharge 5-6). The wendigo emits a maddening howl and each creature within 30 feet of the wendigo must succeed on a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or take 14 (4d6) psychic damage. The creature must use its reaction and make an unarmed attack (bite) against a creature within 20 feet, using up to half its movement to lunge towards its target.

Bonus Actions

Leap. As a bonus action, the Wendigo can take the Disengage action if there are walls or tree branches within 20 feet of the Wendigo.

Hide. As a bonus action, the Wendigo can attempt to hide. The wendigo can attempt to hide even when it is only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, or other natural phenomena.

Legendary Actions

The Wendigo can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Wendigo regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Lunge. The Wendigo moves up to half its speed.

Claw. The Wendigo makes a claw attack.

Hide. The Wendigo can attempt to hide. The wendigo can attempt to hide even when it is only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, or other natural phenomena.

Description

The Wendigo is tall and gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets the wendigo skulks in the northern forests and mountains of the realm. Wendigos take on animalistic traits, often sprouting giant antlers and the claws of a bear.

The Wendigo is a spirit of cannibalism or treachery that possesses the weak of will.

When tribesmen are isolated in their homes, trapped by the deep snows and treacherous cold, and the scarcity of food seeps deeper into the soul, the ravenous nature of the Wendigo begins to take hold.

A darker, more powerful Wendigo can be formed when a person commits a treacherous murder, betraying one they love for their own desires.

After manifesting itself, wendigos are cursed to wander the land, eternally seeking to fulfill their voracious appetite for humanoid flesh.
