Description

The dog croc is a distant cousin to the more well-known crocodile.  Named for its social nature, intelligence, and adaptability, the dog croc is a terrestrial crocodile found in a number of different environments.  Possessing differentiated teeth, dog crocs are omnivorous and eat everything from seeds, berries, roots tubers, honey, and freshly hunted meat.  They are opportunists and are commonly seen scavenging from large corpses.  When actively hunting, they prefer to stalk insects and small animals, and are liked in cities for their abilities as mousers.  When found near rivers or coastlines, they are seen to wade for fish and eat hard-shelled animals like snails and crabs.  While not as adapted to the water as their larger cousins, they still are excellent swimmers.  Known for the ability to climb, in forests they often climb trees to avoid predators and reach bird nests and fruit.

Dog crocs mate for life and protect their hatchlings for the first two years of life.  While not typically found in packs, in times of hardship they are known to join up and work together to bring down larger prey.

In Goron Gol, Golbins use trained dog crocs in hunting parties and are sometimes used as mounts by scouts.
