Description
A powerful vampire that serves as a member of Strahd's personal guard.
Bloodguard. The Bloodguard are a group of elite soldiers and knights who served Strahd faithfully in life. Even in death, the members of the bloodguard to could not abide their lust for blood overruling their loyalty to the Lord of the Valley; each willingly sewed their mouths shut, preventing them from tasting the blood they so voraciously craved. Instead, members of the bloodguard channel this desirous impulse into battlefield savagery.
The Lance. In life, Leipsig was a career jouster who found herself in the service of King Barov. Impressed with her courage and horsemanship, Strahd recruited her into the ranks of his personal guard. There, she served as second-in-command to knight-captain Oleg and earned a reputation as a vicious cavalry officer and hard-drinking reveler.
Guardian of His Majesty's Heart. In death, Leipsig is tasked with protecting the Heart of Sorrow; a living, crystaline device of great necromantic power growing from one of the castle's towers. The Heart of Sorrow drains the vitality of the land in order to protect Strahd from harm, taking damage in his stead. Liepsig's chief duty is to ensure that none interfere with or destroy the Heart, as doing so may leave the master vulnerable.
