Amphibious: The Abyssal Leviathan can breathe air and water.
Inky Escape (Recharge 5–6): When the Leviathan is below half its hit points, it releases a 30-foot-radius cloud of black ink. The area is heavily obscured for 1 minute or until dispersed by a strong current. The Leviathan can then take the Dash action as a bonus action.
Tentacle Regrowth: If a tentacle is severed (via a critical hit dealing 15+ slashing damage), it regrows after 24 hours unless the creature is killed.
Multiattack: The Abyssal Leviathan makes three attacks: two with its tentacles and one with its beak.
Tentacle: Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d6 + 7) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 18). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained.
Beak: Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) piercing damage.
Crushing Embrace: Each creature grappled by the Leviathan’s tentacles must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or take 27 (6d8) bludgeoning damage as the tentacles constrict around them. On a success, the creature takes half damage.
Thrash: The Leviathan thrashes its body violently, forcing all creatures within 10 feet to make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 12 (2d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage and be pushed 10 feet away.
Description
A distant relative of the Kraken, the Abyssal Leviathan is a massive predator that lurks in deep ocean trenches and preys on ships that venture too close to its territory. Its massive, barbed tentacles can tear apart vessels, while its crushing embrace can drag even the strongest adventurers into the abyss. Unlike its more intelligent kin, the Leviathan is primarily driven by instinct, attacking anything that enters its domain with ferocious tenacity.
Its body glows faintly with bioluminescent patterns, which it can extinguish to blend into the depths. Though not as destructive as a Kraken, the Abyssal Leviathan is a force of nature that can challenge any crew daring to sail in dangerous waters.
