Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Alkrun Bragonbrand fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.
Blightful Rejuvenation. If Alkrun Bragonbrand has his armor intact, Alkrun Bragonbrand gains a new body in 1d10 days, regaining all its hit points and becoming active again. The new body appears as reverse burning in a space unoccupied from where is, stored, and if a humanoid wearing is armor preventing his rejuvenation must make a WIS save of 20 in order not to be possessed by him. And while his armor the victim's body must succeed a CON save of 17 to halfdamage or take 4d4 + 2 fire damage until the wearer converts into his body at 0 hp. His rejuvenation time is cut in half within his 1-mile lair.
Doubtful Spellcasting. Alkrun Bragonbrand is an 18th-level spellcaster. His disbelief in God's converted his spellcasting ability to Intelligence instead of Charisma (spell save DC 20, +12 to hit with spell attacks). Alkrun Bragonbrand has the following Oathbreaker spells prepared:
1st level (4 slots): hellish rebuke, inflict wounds
2nd level (3 slots): crown of madness, darkness
3rd level (3 slots): animate dead, bestow curse
4th level (3 slots): blight, confusion
5th level (1 slots): contagion, dominate person
Turn Rebellious. Alkrun Bragonbrand detests any form of control or manipulation because of his death. And has advantage (+5) on saving throws against any effect that turns undead.
Multi-attack. Alkrun Bragonbrand can perform two attacks per turn with his mace. Cindering clutches can optionally be performed as a second attack only with his shield arm lowering his armor class to 19 on the next turn only.
Mace. Melee attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft. Hit: 10 (1d6+3) bludgeoning damage.
Cindering cluches. Melee Spell Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 10 (3d6) fire damage. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Alkrun Bragonbrand can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Alkrun Bragonbrand regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Horrid Comedian (Costs 1 Action). Alkrun Bragonbrand cast terrible jokes and rumors at his enemies provoking them to be frenzied towards any target that he sees and they can hear. Target creature must succeed a wisdom DC of 20 in order to not be affected by the frenzied condition for the three turns.
Cindering cluches (Costs 2 Actions). Alkrun Bragonbrand uses its Cindering cluches.
Frightening Gaze (Costs 2 Actions). Alkrun Bragonbrand fixes his gaze on one creature it can see within 10 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or become frightened for 1 minute. The frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to the Alkrun Bragonbrand’s gaze for the next 24 hours.
Disrupt Life (Costs 3 Actions). Each non-undead creature within 20 feet of Alkrun Bragonbrand must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw against this magic, taking 21 (6d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Description
Background. Alkrun Bragonbrand was a noble lord and business owner to his dragonbrand oak lumbering trade. He had lived with terrible upcomings due to a witch's curse that was bestowed upon his family blood. To be scorned by a dragon with the witch's vow. He had spent half his fortune trying to prevent this. In his desperation he had led to a witch in the nearby wood to absolve his disasterly curses upon his businesses and land. The witch had convinced him (although the witch was a succubus in disguise and orchestrator of the curse for local power and the harvesting of souls.) To go slat one of the nearby dragons. Only for that dragon to know the succubus's plan through scurrying. And once the nobleman who was desperate to save his kingdom was scorned by the truth by the dragon's breath. His soul filled up with so much rage that he tore through barriers of death. In his rage he had destroyed both the succubus and the dragon while burning his kingdom down to the ground. Taking the souls of his people with him to undeath. Hundreds of years have passed in cackling madness made him a baleful comedian. And as he lost his luster for gods in magic. He laughs at the sufferings of others. And he is also a clever trickster.
Goals. To have the world expect his rage and to be revered as the fiery Tyrant he's become. He likes to torment and devour The souls of adventurers. Preferring to capture and humiliate then to just swiftly execute. He is very territorial not allowing any other evil around him.
Encounters. He is mostly found in his 1-mile burnt forest lair of dragon brand. Sometimes pretending to be a dead rider on top of a draft horse before striking. But often is found antagonizing anyone who treads on his land such as adventurers or historians trying to figure out what happened to the place. But he has a terrible grudge and will follow others outside of his lair. And attacking when there are most comfortable such as campsites and tavern inns barging in and ruining the reputation as a curses traveling band.
Reputation. Local populations have considered him a fairy tale by the time adventurers have found it. They well consider him the cursed rider or the scornborn. The undead Lord who ripped his self out of the dragon's belly(exaggeration story). These stories are usually to keep adventures children and other would be knowledge folk who were trying to go into the burnt forest. He will also be known as the forgotten lord, regent of rage, and the lich knight.
Lair and Lair Actions
Alkrun Bragonbrand’s Lair
A one square mile of oak forest destroyed by his very firy undead rage is what's left of his lair. Even though his layer is not filled with magical anchors, it is very filled with angry spirits sharing his rage. Dragonbrands lumbering kingdom in decrepit cindered shambles. The ash covered leafless forest fuels his desire to bring dread to others as he had experienced in life. Ever burning spiritual cinders hate the land up with a fiery tone. He can often leave his abode in order to terrorize living settlements. But if he is gone for more than a month. He takes 1d8 cold damage per hour. As a representation of his attachments towards his hatred and fury.
Alkrun Bragonbrand encountered in his lair has a challenge rating of 23 (50,000 XP).
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Alkrun Bragonbrand can take a lair action to cause one of the following magical effects; Alkrun Bragonbrand can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- Extra Legendary action. Within the one mile square radius of his castle and burned oak forest the fueling heat of his Fury and desire gives him an extra legendary action per round.
- Inflamed infantry. (five round recharge). From the sendering ashes and charcoal armored skeletons arise to his war call. Alkrun Bragonbrand can call forth 1d4 skeletons in that round sharing his initiative after him. (Use skeleton template)
- Nightmarish Mount. While in his layer he is able to freely conjure as a bonus action a nightmare mount. The same nightmare Mount can disguise itself as a normal draft horse with the difficulty class of 19 Intelligence to see through the disguise. (Nightmare template).
