Traits

Burst of Speed (Recharge 4-6). As a bonus action, the wendigo can move up to its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Forest Hunters. The wendigo ignores the naturally difficult terrain of forest environments.

Keen Hearing and Sight. The wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or sight.

Actions

Multiattack. The wendigo makes two claw attacks. If both attacks hit a single target, the wendigo may make a bite attack against the same target as a bonus action.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) slashing damage.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage and the wendigo gains temporary hit points equal to twice its Constitution modifier (8).

Nightmare (1/Day). The wendigo enters the dreams of a sleeping humanoid within 1,000 feet. A protection from evil and good spell cast on the target prevents this cntact, as does a magic circle. The target must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the wendigo may manifest as a phantasmal monstrosity and twist the creature's dream into a nightmare that lasts the duration of the target's sleep and prevents the target from gaining nay benefit from that rest. In addition, when the target wakes up, it takes (7) 2d6 psychic damage.

Description

"It is hard to believe that this was once human. the specimen is just an inch shy of nine feet in height and as wide as a minotaur. Despite its size, in life it moved quickly, occasionally so fast the eye could barely track the monstrosity.

"The facial features have become pointed and prominent, teeth elongated into fangs or almost daggers even, a human hand and fingers have merged into a bestial  claw with razor sharp talons. It eschewed clothes and wore only trophies of previous victims.

"It seemed  to show a fear of fire, kicking snow onto our camp fire as it attacked. Its stomach showed signs of starvation, so it was likely desperate and its brain had enlarged adrenal glands and frontal lobes. This is a dangerous predator and I recommend it to be avoided at all costs."

    - Autopsy of a Wendigo by Garridan Crowley

Ravenous Cannibals

The wendigo were once humanoids, taken to cannibalism due to starvation or dark rituals for power. A steady diet of sentient flesh has twisted and warped the eater into a wendigo, an immortal terror with an insatiable appetite.

Wendigo retain their human minds but often act as mindless beasts the hungrier they get. A wendigo may not age, but can starve and gains no nutrition from anything other than sentient creatures.

Unnatural Predators

The wendigo is an evil and sadistic persistence hunter, once the wendigo has selected a potential victim it stalks them for days whilst wearing them down. Only after multiple sleepless nights and outs of paranoia have set in will a wendigo strike, taking pleasure in the fear it has cultivated.

If a wendigo is hungry enough it may forgo this tactic, but as an intelligent predator it tends to relish any advantage it can get before engaging.

Menacing Master

The wendigo is said to originate from an alpha. A being strong enough to reach out to those who taste sentient flesh and corrupting them, temp them into further feasts. Tales of this alpha wendigo speak of a thirty foot tall, white furred wendigo with antlers. It is said to be able to dominate wendigos, summon snow storms, and poison humanoids; this poison causes the victim to be unable to gain nutrition from anything other than sentient flesh, effectively giving it the choice to starve or transform into a wendigo themselves.
