Mounted Mastery. While mounted on his wyvern, Barnabas has advantage on melee attack rolls against creatures smaller than his mount.
Commanding Presence. Barnabas can inspire nearby allies. As a bonus action, he can choose up to three allied creatures within 30 feet who can hear him. Each ally gains 10 temporary hit points and advantage on their next attack roll within the next minute.
Loyal Companion. If Barnabas’ wyvern is reduced to 0 hit points, Barnabas gains advantage on all attack rolls against the creature that delivered the final blow for the next minute and treats a roll of 18+ on a D20 automatically as a critical hit.
Unbreakable Will. Barnabas has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened by creatures who have attacked his wyvern, his men, or the mounts of his men. Additionally, if Barnabas is charmed or frightened and he witnesses such an attack, these conditions automatically end.
Poisonproof Splint. Barnabas’ magical armor grants him immunity to poison damage and the poisoned condition caused by wyverns, protecting him from his mount’s natural abilities and those of enemy wyverns.
Multiattack. Barnabas makes two attacks with his lance.
+2 Lance. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 12 (1d10 + 6) piercing damage. If used while mounted, the lance deals an additional 9 (2d8) piercing damage. The target must also succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be knocked prone.
Leadership (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). For 1 minute, Barnabas can utter commands or encouragement to his allies. While doing so, he can use a reaction to grant a friendly creature within 30 feet an additional 1d8 to their attack roll or saving throw.
Command Wyvern. As a bonus action, Barnabas commands his wyvern to make a claw or bite attack.
Description
Barnabas is a loyal and charismatic leader who values camaraderie and loyalty above all else. His unwavering commitment to his men and his wyvern defines his every decision. While his alignment leans towards self-serving opportunism, his fierce protectiveness for his crew and their mounts is undeniable. He refers to his soldiers as “boys” not out of condescension but as a mark of camaraderie, fostering an unshakable bond among his unit.
Barnabas rides at the head of his wyvern-riders, leading aerial charges with his trusty +2 lance. His wyvern, a fiercely loyal companion, fights with equal ferocity to protect him. Barnabas’ leadership inspires confidence and resolve, granting his allies an edge in battle. His straightforward nature and strong personality make him an effective enforcer for Azrael’s growing regime.
Though Barnabas has thrown his lot in with Azrael and Tiamat for now, he remains practical and opportunistic. He respects strength and victory, seeing them as the ultimate measures of worth. Despite his pragmatism, he has a personal code: betrayals against his crew or his wyvern provoke his unrelenting wrath.
In battle, Barnabas fights intelligently, using his wyvern’s mobility and his lance’s reach to keep enemies at bay. He will never retreat if his wyvern, his crew, or their mounts are in danger, embodying the captain’s duty to protect his men and fight for their survival.
