Infused with Power. The Gaze has been anointed with the Gift of Battle from a Banner of the Krig Rune, a Spelljamming Helm, and a Battle Standard of Infernal Power next to the helm.

While in the 500-foot-radius sphere centered on the deck, the crewmates are immune to the frightened condition and gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls and AC. Additionally, while a creature is attuned to the standard and holding it, any weapon attacks of all allied creatures within 300 feet of them count as magical for the purposes of overcoming damage immunities and resistances.

Dread Necromancy. Any undead crew under the control of a captain of the ship can be commanded with a free action instead of a bonus action, if they require one to command.

Spelljamming Helm. While attuned to a Spelljamming Helm and sitting in it, you gain the following abilities for as long as you maintain concentration (as if concentrating on a spell):

  • You can use the spelljamming helm to move the ship through space, air, or water up to the ship’s speed. If the ship is in space and no other objects weighing 1 ton or more are within 1 mile of it, you can use the spelljamming helm to move the vessel fast enough to travel 100 million miles in 24 hours.
  • You can steer the vessel, albeit in a somewhat clumsy fashion, in much the way that a rudder or oars can be used to maneuver a seafaring ship.
  • At any time, you can see and hear what’s happening on and around the vessel as though you were standing in a location of your choice aboard it.

Transfer Attunement. You can use an action to touch a willing spellcaster. That creature attunes to the spelljamming helm immediately, and your attunement to it ends.

Actions

On its turn, the Gaze can take 2 actions, choosing from the options below. It can take only 1 action if it has only one crew. It can't take these actions if it has no crew.

Move. The Gaze can use its helm to move with its sails or by use of the spelljamming helm. It can move up to the speed of one of the ship's movement components, with one 90-degree turn.

Fire Cannon. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 600/1200 ft., 1 target. Hit: 44 (8d10) [bludgeoning] damage.

Breath of Fear. (1/day) - A creature attuned to the spelljamming helm can telepathically command the boat to emit a green fog from the boned figurehead adorning the front of the Undying Gaze. Each creature in a 30-foot cone must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or drop whatever it is holding and become frightened for one minute. If the creature ends its turn in a location where it doesn’t have line of sight to you, the creature can make a Wisdom saving throw. On a successful save, the effect ends for that creature.

A cannon is usually supported in a wooden frame with wheels. Before it can be fired, the cannon must be loaded and aimed. It takes one action to load the cannon, one action to aim it, and one action to fire it.

Description

This ship of blackened wood has been outfitted with a metallic chain coating around the exterior, neatly integrating large bones into its design, and making up the majority of the knobs which are used for rope tying/boarding purposes. The front is adorned with a skeletal figurehead of a creature sporting one eye socket and a jagged toothy jaw, constantly engulfed in a magical flame. The sail is made out of a cloak of protection, and the helm's wheel has integrated in it a metallic ring in the center, made from a ring of protection. The hull and all metal on the ship have been replaced with Adamantine from the Forge of Bezmadan.

Originally constructed from a keelboat, An Odyssey's Undying Gaze, or The Gaze, has been upgraded to function like a smaller sailing ship. However, due to it's size, it can still be sailed or rowed by a single person. The Gaze has the following features:

Light. Five continual flame lanterns with shutters provide light upon the top deck. Four more continual flame bullseye lanterns provide light forward and aft for navigation

Rigging. Rigging on the ship can be climbed without an ability check.

Sails. The Gaze has one 15-foot-tall mast with sails made from a cloak of protection.

Mast. The mast of the Gaze has been infused with a casting of magic mouth. When pressed, Bacon's voice can be heard calling as an alarm.

Undying Gaze Crew

The Gaze requires a single crew member to operate smoothly with or without the spelljamming helm. Most often, the Gaze is also crewed by Skeletons controlled with the spell Animate Dead. The Gaze's latent necromancy makes ordering such crew mates significantly easier.

Undying Gaze Deck

The deck of the Gaze has the following features:

Cannon. A cannon is mounted on the fore of the deck. Ten cannon balls are stacked and secured nearby.

Railing. The deck has a 3-foot-high rail around its perimeter that provides half cover for Medium creatures and three-quarters cover for Small creatures behind it.

Undying Gaze Cabin

The Gaze cabin has the following features:

Footlockers. Beneath each bed is a footlocker. The footlockers are iron and have AC 19, 18 hit points, and immunity to poison and psychic damage.

Furnishings. Two beds and a desk with a chair stand at the aft of the cabin, as well as a small collection of books.

Undying Gaze Cargo Hold

The Gaze Cargo Hold is in bow, and offers space to store 0.5 tons of goods. There is often a chest filled with bones, ready to be animated into new crew mates, as well as raw metals, wood, and other materials for their weapons. A small crafting station also holds a plethora of tools for any on the job repairs needed.

Altar. A small Altar to the dragon goddess of magic, Kereska, has been assembled into the bow, furnished with Continual Flame candles floating in place with permanent castings of Immoveable Object. This alter can be used as a sanctuary by the spell Word of Recall.
