Description
While some legionaries are equipped with a sling and shot instead of javelins, dedicated slinger troops are something of a rarity in the Atraxian legions and are typically only seen when a commander or governor needs to pad out a garrison or cohort cheaply. These troops are used in support of other, better equipped and trained soldiers similar to skirmishers to frustrate and harass the enemy. Slingers were far more common in Atraxia's past, but the empire has long since shifted to other troops and missiles wherever possible.
The average Atraxian slinger is equipped with nothing but the clothes on their back, a sling and, occasionally, a helm. A pouch hanging from the belt contains all the shot for their sling, typically over one hundred bullets cast from lead or small stones, and in a pinch they can resupply using nearby stones or even debris during a siege.
