Apex Sight. The zu has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Sky Eater. A melee weapon deals two extra die of its damage when the zu hits with it (included in the attack).
Thick Feathers. The zu ignores any damage that is lower than 15 points of damage. This trait doesn't function with psychic or poison damage.
Multiattack. The zu makes three attacks: one with its beak and two with its talons or it makes one with its beak and one fling attack.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 37 (6d8 + 10) piercing damage.
Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 31 (6d6 + 10) slashing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 20). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the zu can't use that talon on another target.
Fling. The zu throws a creature it has grappled in its talons. That creature is flung up to 200 feet into either the ground or a mountain. That creature takes full fall damage, replacing the d6 with d8. A huge or larger creature could be impaled against the mountain, up to the DM's discretion.
Description
Enormous black bird big enough to block out the sun. It builds it nest out of reach from other creatures, but it swoops down from its solitude during mating season—much to the fright of all below. While fundamentally a docile creature, the zu is unrelenting in its assault on aggressors. Some say it once razed an entire village in pursuit of a man who stole its egg. It has a total wingspan of about 300 feet.
