Aura of Protection:
Allies within 30 feet of Basajaun gain a +2 bonus to AC and saving throws while in his line of sight.
Innate Spellcasting:
Basajaun's spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 17). He can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
- At will: druidcraft, entangle
- 3/day each: barkskin, plant growth, speak with animals
- 1/day each: awaken, tree stride, wall of thorns
Regeneration:
Basajaun regains 10 hit points at the start of his turn if he has at least 1 hit point.
Sentinel of the Forest:
Basajaun has advantage on saving throws against effects that would harm plants or animals. He also ignores difficult terrain caused by natural features.
Nature’s Guardian (Recharge 5–6):
As a bonus action, Basajaun can summon a guardian beast (CR 2 or lower, such as a giant wolf or bear) to aid him in battle. The beast fights alongside him for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points.
Multiattack:
Basajaun makes two melee attacks.
Claw: Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) slashing damage.
Roar of the Wild:
Basajaun lets out a deafening roar. Each creature of his choice within 30 feet must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature is frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the save at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Vine Snare (Recharge 5–6):
Basajaun summons vines to erupt from the ground in a 20-foot radius centered on a point he can see within 60 feet. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be restrained. The vines last for 1 minute or until Basajaun uses this ability again.
Basajaun can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Basajaun regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.
- Move: Basajaun moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
- Vine Lash: Basajaun uses his Vine Snare ability on a single creature within 10 feet.
- Nature’s Call (Costs 2 Actions): Basajaun summons a swarm of small beasts (e.g., wolves, squirrels, or birds) that attack all enemies within 20 feet. Creatures in the area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 14 (4d6) slashing damage from the swarm.
Description
Basajaun is a towering guardian of the wilds, revered as the ancient protector of forests and the creatures that dwell within them. Known as the Lord of the Forest, he embodies the strength and wisdom of nature. His presence ensures that the balance of life is maintained, shielding his domain from those who would harm it.
Basajaun appears as a colossal humanoid covered in thick fur of earthy browns and mossy greens, adorned with leaves, flowers, and branches that seem to grow naturally from his body. His glowing green eyes radiate a deep, ancient wisdom, and his voice echoes like the rustling of leaves and the creaking of trees in the wind. He moves with surprising grace for his size, leaving trails of vibrant vegetation wherever he steps.
Though peaceful by nature, Basajaun is a fierce defender of his home. He watches over the flora and fauna of the forest, guiding those who respect the natural world and punishing those who bring harm. His bond with the wilds allows him to summon animals, control plant life, and shape the forest to his will.
In your campaign, Basajaun can be a formidable ally or a challenging adversary. As a mentor figure, he may impart ancient knowledge to adventurers seeking wisdom from the wilds. As an antagonist, he could rise against those who disrupt the balance of nature, reminding all that the forest is a living entity that will protect itself when threatened.
Lair and Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Basajaun can use a lair action to cause one of the following effects in his forest domain:
- Roots of the Earth: Basajaun causes the ground in a 30-foot radius to become difficult terrain for his enemies.
- Forest’s Embrace: Basajaun heals himself and allies within 30 feet for 10 hit points.
- Natural Barricade: Thorny bushes erupt in a 10-foot radius, providing half cover to creatures inside and dealing 10 (3d6) piercing damage to enemies that enter the area.
