Actions

Multiattack. The abyssal giant squid makes two attacks: one with its tentacles and one with its beak. 


Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 40 ft., one target. 
Hit: 20 (3d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 17). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained. The squid can grapple up to three creatures at a time with its tentacles. 


Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. 
Hit: 24 (4d8 + 6) piercing damage. 


Hypnotic Glow (Recharge 6). The abyssal giant squid emits a pulsating bioluminescent glow. Each creature within 30 feet that can see the squid must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. While charmed, the creature is incapacitated and has a speed of 0. A creature charmed this way can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turn, ending the effect on itself on a success. 

Bonus Actions

Ethereal Ink (Recharge 5–6). While underwater, the abyssal giant squid releases a magical ink cloud in a 30-foot radius. The area becomes heavily obscured and creatures within the cloud must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turn, ending the effect on itself on a success. 

Description

A monster of the depths, the Abyssal Giant Squid was merely a rumor, seen as a tall tale by many, until the hulking corpse of one was hauled up many years later. Now, it is one of the most feared creatures in the ocean, attacking small vessels and devouring their crews. The squid's somewhat gelatinous body allows it to resist many magic attacks more easily. The squid's gargantuan tentacles allow it to reach out of the water and grab unlucky travelers off of the shoreline or their boats. The Abyssal Giant Squid can release a dark cloud of ink in a pinch, allowing it to make a shifty getaway. The squid is capable of manipulating objects with its tentacles, allowing it to snatch prey even in places that would normally be tricky to reach.

Harvesting the abyssal giant squid with a DC 18 Survival check can yield Abyssal Ink, which can be used to craft potions or scrolls that inflict fear effects. Its meat, when cooked, provides resistance to psychic damage for 1 hour.
