Traits

Slush Rush. Alolan Sandshrew has advantage on initiative rolls in snowy climates.

Actions

Ice Shard. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 11 (2d4+2) cold damage.

Ice Ball.  +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. [Can only be used when under the effects of Defense Curl] Hit: 5 (1d6+2) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. Each time Alolan Sandshrew deals damage with this attack in a row, it deals one extra d6 of damage, up to a maximum of 19 (5d6+2) cold damage on the fifth consecutive hit. Alolan Sandshrew doesn't need to attack the same target each time to accumulate the extra damage dice. All accumulated dice are lost if Alolan Sandshrew does not hit with Ice Ball on its turn.

Bonus Actions

Defense Curl.  As a bonus action, Alolan Sandshrew can curl into a ball to protect itself. Until it uncurls, it gains a bonus to AC equal to its trainer's proficiency bonus, its burrowing speed replaces its normal speed, and attacks of opportunity against Alolan Sandshrew are made with disadvantage. While curled, Alolan Sandshrew can only take the Dash and Ice Ball actions and it cannot take reactions. Alolan Sandshrew can take another bonus action to uncurl itself on any subsequent turn.

Description

In colder regions, Sandshrew migrated to snowy mountains due to the volcanic activity near the desert areas. Its body is a light, icy blue and with a cream-colored belly and muzzle. Thicker plates form a dome around its head and its ears resemble an igloo's entrances. In adapting to this cold climate, its body became larger and heavier with a shell of ice covering its hide.  Alolan Sandshrew's claws allow it to move without slipping on icy surfaces, but it slides on its stomach when it needs to move quickly.
