Traits

Aura of Excess. V’jait's Indigestion creates areas overflowing with gluttonous energy that radiate as an aura in any area completely enclosed by walls of flame. While within the aura, all creatures deal triple damage with attacks and spells. Healing effects  originating from sources inside the aura are tripled.

Cascading Burst. When a creature deals 100 damage to V’jait in a single turn, his bloated form bursts, releasing a surge of acidic bile. All creatures within 10 feet of V’jait must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (3d6) acid damage, or half as much damage on a successful save. Then, each creature become the center of a new burst. Each new burst affects all creatures within 10 feet of the triggering creature, who must also make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, repeating the effect. A creature can only take damage from Cascading Burst once per round, regardless of how many bursts occur.

Feast of the Fallen. When a creature dies within 100 feet of V’jait, it leaves behind a tongue of flame that persists until the end of the next round. At the start of V’jait’s turn, he absorbs all unclaimed tongues, healing 15 hit points per tongue. A creature can use its action to absorb a tongue, choosing either to heal 15 hit points or gain 20 temporary hit points. If they do, they gain one level of exhaustion.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If V’jait fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Magic Resistance. V’jaithas advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Regeneration. V’jait regains 40 hit points at the start of its turn if no creature is outside of its Aura of Excess. If it takes cold damage, this trait doesn’t function at the start of its next turn. V’jait dies only if it starts its turn with 0 hit points and doesn’t regenerate.

Voracity. V'jait starts each round with 3 Voracity. At the end of each creature's turn, V’jait gains 1 Voracity if that creature didn't use their Action. Repeat this for Bonus Action and Reaction. Then, V'jait gains 1 Voracity if the player didn't make an attack or cast a spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher. When V'jait reaches 4 Voracity, he loses Legendary Actions until he spends all Voracity and he must use Regurgitate on his next turn.

Actions

Multiattack. V'jait makes three Tongue Lash attacks.

Tongue Lash. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 20 ft. or range 60/120 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) acid damage. Any creature killed by this attack is drawn into V'jait's body, where the corpse is dissolved after 1 minute.

Regurgitate (4 Voracity). V'jait regurgitates a corrosive slime, targeting one creature that it can see within 60 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 21 Dexterity saving throw or take 55 (10d10) acid damage. Unless the target avoids taking all of this damage, any metal armor worn by the target takes a permanent −1 penalty to the AC it offers, and any metal weapon the target is carrying or wearing takes a permanent −1 penalty to damage rolls. The penalty worsens each time a target is subjected to this effect. If the penalty on an object drops to −5, the object is destroyed. The penalty on an object can be removed by the mending spell. Then, a Consumed Demigod lands 5 feet in front of the target.

Spellcasting. V'jait casts one of the following spells, requiring no material components and using Wisdom as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 20):

At will: detect magic

3/day each: cloudkill, contagion

Legendary Actions

V'jait can take legendary actions by spending Voracity, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn.

Attack (1 Voracity). V'jait makes one Tongue Lash attack.

Corrupting Touch (2 Voracity). Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 21 (4d6 + 7) poison damage, and the target is slimed. Until the slime is scraped off with an action, the target is poisoned, and any creature, other than an Ooze, is poisoned while within 10 feet of the target.

Cast a Spell (2 Voracity). V'jait casts one of his spells.

Ravenous Offspring (3 Voracity). V'jait summons minions to fight his foes. Roll 1D4 to determine the nature of his minions. Creatures summoned this way have 20 hit points remaining.

Description

Called the Maw Without End and the Engorged Tyrant in ancient grimoires, V'jait Gex is demon lord of excess, a noxious creature that doesn’t care about the plots and schemes of others of its kind. It exists only to consume, digesting and transforming living matter into more of itself.

His true form is an amorphous colossus of pulsating flesh, constantly swelling, splitting, and reforming with grotesque excess. His many mouths, ranging from delicate lips to yawning, cavernous maws, constantly mutter, slurp, and wail as he shambles forward. Tongues of unnatural length lash out like tendrils, grasping at anything that moves, dragging it into the folds of his bloated mass where teeth, gaping sores, and digestive pits await. His body is riddled with orifices, each one a window into writhing horrors, spewing bile, acid, and twitching parasites into the air.

Lair and Lair Actions

Ravenous Offspring (Lair Effect)

If V’jait is encountered in his lair, the Stomach of Madeus, he casts Ravenous Offspring at Initiative Count 1 each round without expending any Voracity.

Rising Bile (Lair Effect)

Each time Cascading Burst is triggered, the acidic bile in V’jait’s lair rises, creating increasingly hazardous conditions for all creatures within the lair. The effects stack and escalate as the fight progresses:

Stage 1: Acid Seepage

When Cascading Burst is triggered for the first time, the lair begins to flood with bile.

  • At the start of each creature’s turn, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (2d10) acid damage.

Stage 2: Rising Bile

When Cascading Burst is triggered a second time, the bile rises to ankle height:

  • At the start of each creature’s turn, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 15 (3d10) acid damage and have its speed reduced by 10 feet until the start of its next turn.
  • Creatures that fall prone in the bile or start their turn prone take an additional 15 (3d10) acid damage.

Stage 3: Flood of Gluttony

When Cascading Burst is triggered a third time, the bile rises to knee height:

  • The ground in V'jait's lair becomes difficult terrain. Minions spawned by V’jait treat it as if it wasn't difficult terrain.
  • At the start of each creature’s turn, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength (Athletics) check or be restrained if it is standing in the bile and doesn't have a swimming speed. A restrained creature can repeat the save at the end of its turn.
  • All creatures in the bile take 15 (3d10) acid damage at the start of their turn.

Stage 4: Ocean of Excess

When Cascading Burst is triggered a fourth time or beyond, the bile rises to chest height:

  • All creatures in the bile take 20 (4d10) acid damage at the start of their turn.
  • At the end of each creature’s turn, it must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion as the bile’s acidic fumes corrode their body and spirit.
  • Flying creatures that end their turn within 10 feet of the bile take 10 (2d10) acid damage from the caustic vapors.
