Posted Feb 21, 2025Got a cool idea relating to the fey symbiote thing they mentioned. Imagine a treant who has some dryads morphed into it, giving it multiple faces and stuff. And you could maybe work that into a cool boss monster. Make the treant one size larger, give it access to the dryad's actions (maybe including some other spells like plant growth), give it extra hitpoints equal to 22 multiplied by the amount of dryads morphed into it (I recommend five which would make it 248), and last but not least to make up for action economy you could give it either more attacks with its multiattack action or just make it have 2 actions each turn. There you go, big cool easy to make treant chief guardian dangerous guy!

Posted May 6, 2025I love the artwork with the colored leafs.
Statwise they gave her the ac from barkskin permanent. Treewalk is now a BA and doesnt cost 10 movement. And it got a ranged attack. Overall just some adjustments.

Posted Jun 24, 2025But Fey Charm specified that the target "regards the dryad as a trusted friend to be heeded and protected." The target of Charm Monster merely views the dryad "favorably" and can't attack it. The target doesn't have to do anything at all for the dryad.
Sure, the dryad has Advantage on social interaction checks against the target, but those have no enforceable effect on PCs.

Posted Jul 7, 2025I don't think it's designed to be used against PCs, or at least the 2024 version. DMs controlling PCs can really rob players of agency and I can see why they would lean away from it. I know mind influencing/control of PCs can be done well but it is difficult to pull off. If you have a table that wants to lean into that, I think a DM and player interested can roleplay and/or make checks to explore the Dryad's influence (and you could use the text of the 2014 Fey Influence instead of Charm Monster to set clearer guidelines of what that charming looks like).
Instead of being used on players, I see the change from Fey Influence to Charm Monster and Animal Friendship to be more useful against NPCs and beasts. It provides mechanical reasoning for the Dryad controlling people and beasts but doesn't step into the realm of complete control. There are also a couple other benefits to the change. Generally, the new monsters use spells instead of abilities that are very similar to spells but are slightly different, which generally slims down the load on the DM (some love this change and others hate it, but either way I'm pretty sure why that change was made to so many monsters). Second, I would argue that the scope of Charm Monster better matches a CR 2 monster, compared to the scope of Fey Influence.
