Traits

Pack Tactics. The wolf has Advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the wolf’s allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally doesn’t have the Incapacitated condition.

Respect of the strong. if the alpha Dire wolf is slain by another wild yet intelligent species, like a dragon maybe, the rest of the pack will see that other species as the new alpha. they will now hunt with the new alpha, protect it as minions, and occasionally challenge that alpha if it gets too "soft".

Description

these wolves have lived by battlefields for generations and over time learned how to use the weapons used by those on the battlefields. they come in packs of 12 to 35 individuals with a dire wolf leading them as the alpha. once a pack gets too large they split in two making two new packs. they gather weapons from corpses on the battlefield, and each train with a specific weapon until they are proficient with it. They carry their weapon at all times, no matter how heavy it is, so it will take a lot to make them exausted. the weapons they use are Held in their mouths, and can be anything including swords, axes, hammers, daggers, and sometimes a magic item. depending on the magic item, some of the wolves may be able to use spells. if the item was a wizards spell book, that wolf may be able to cast some of the spells in the book, like fireball for example. another important think to note is that all of these wolfs that will be encountered will be battle weathered, and are thus immune to being frightened. these wolves are used to seeing violence, so they rarely retreat. this means that there are only 3 ways to stop a pack from attacking. these ways are bribing the wolves with food or better weapons, slaying half of the pack so the alpha sees you as not worth the effort, and slaying the alpha Dire wolf. if a player challenges the Alpha to a fight the other wolves will make a circle around the both of them until the fight is finished with one of them dead. no healing or support spells will be allowed from either side. if the alpha is slain, the player can take it's weapon and have the wolves leave you alone as long as you have that weapon, or ,if you can, cast speak with animals, and get one request from them that doesn't result in their harm. it is possible to tame these monsters, but is is quite challenging.
