Adapted to Wildspace. Aucian doesn’t need to breathe. Additionally, he can’t be magically put to sleep.

Among the Dead. If an undead targets Aucian directly with an attack or a harmful spell, that creature must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw (an undead needn't make the save when it includes Aucian in an area effect, such as the explosion of fireball). On a failed save, the creature must choose a new target or forfeit targeting someone instead of Aucian, potentially wasting the attack or spell. On a successful save, the creature is immune to this effect for 24 hours. An undead is also immune to this effect for 24 hours if Aucian targets it with an attack or a harmful spell.

Essence of the True Hero (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). When Aucian reaches 0 hit points, he refuses to die. Instead, with all the determination he can muster, Aucian transforms into an Abiding Form. Once transformed, Aucian remains in this state for 2 hours, or until he is knocked unconscious in his new form, at which point he returns to normal. Use the stat block for “Aucian, The Abiding”, and DO NOT apply any excess damage past 0 from the transformed Aucian’s current hit points.

Innate Spellcasting. Aucian’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 19). He can cast the following spells without needing material components:

At will: false life, jump (self only)

1/day each: fog cloud, forcecage, gust of wind, investiture of ice, wall of light

Pact Magic. Aucian is a 14th level spellcaster. His spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 19, +11 to hit with spell attacks). Aucian knows the following warlock spells:

Cantrips (at will): frostbite (radiant damage), magic stone (radiant damage), spare the dying, thunderclap (radiant damage)

5th level (3 slots): blindness/deafness, contagion, counterspell, death ward, dimension door, expeditious retreat, hold monster, legend lore, protection from evil and good, silence, vampiric touch

Second Wind (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). Aucian regains 11 (1d10 + 6) hit points as a bonus action.

Spear Master. Aucian’s spear attacks are magical, have a reach of 10 feet and have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls and deal 5 radiant damage on a hit (included in the attack). Additionally, Aucian can use a d8 as the damage die even if wielding a spear one-handed and it scores a critical hit for a spear attack on a roll of 19 or 20.

Actions

Multiattack. Aucian makes two attacks with his spear or four attacks with his Eldritch Spear.

Spear. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 10 ft. and range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (1d8 + 8) piercing damage plus 5 radiant damage. If used to make a ranged attack, the spear immediately returns to Aucian’s hand after hitting or missing.

Eldritch Spear. Ranged Spell Attack: +11 to hit, range 300 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 5) force damage.

Starlight Step. Aucian teleports, along with anything he is wearing or carrying, to an unoccupied space he can see of within 30 feet of him.

Reactions

Skewer. Aucian makes a spear attack against a creature that moves within its reach. On a hit, this attack deals an additional 1d8 piercing damage.

Legendary Actions

Aucian can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Aucian regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Attack. Aucian makes one attack with its spear.

Defy Death. Aucian gains 9 (1d8 + 5) temporary hit points that last until the start of its next turn.

Description

Aucian Maerchrysal, also known as the Spear of Sehanine, is famed throughout Wildspace as an archetypal rebel turned adventurer, a troublemaker, and a force for good. Though he is known by many different names across different worlds—including the Arvandorian Avenger, the Exemplar of the Seldarine, and the Spark of Salvation—his deeds are universally acclaimed, and he is renowned as both a hero and a paladin.

Chaos Born of Order. Aucian was born in an asteroid field in the outskirts of Xarysispace, where he became the leader of a band of astral elves and caused much mischief with them. So great was the discord he sowed that Emperor Xavan himself took notice, and decided to welcome him into the ranks of the aristocrats in order to rein in his chaos.
At first Aucian was thrilled at his ascension to nobility, until he realized that the other Xaryxians meant for him to serve as little more than a mere stable boy. Incensed, the Arvandorian Avenger ran amok through the halls of the Imperial Citadel, declaring himself to be the Spear of Sehanine, Xavan’s Equal. Legends say that he singlehandedly bested the greatest warriors of the Xaryxian Empire (including Xeleth), though he was eventually captured and exiled to a world consigned to oblivion for a time.

Journey of Redemption. Eventually, Aucian would be released by a group of kind adventurers, in exchange for helping these adventurers stop a mad kobold from ascending to godhood. During this journey the Spear of Sehanine protected his new companions from countless tyrants, becoming an adept freedom fighter and earning a reputation as a hero. He also learned a measure of humility and respect, though at his core he remains a boisterous and free-spirited individual.

Evolutionary Immortality. During his time as an adventurer, Aucian Merchrysal is said to have witnessed and survived the Mysteries of Arvandor, the Siege of the Jade Municipality, and the Second Sundering of Abeir-Toril. Any one of these experiences would be enough to make an ordinary elf supernaturally skilled, and combined they render the Arvandorian Avenger almost invincible, such that even an emperor could not execute him. When the bladesinger Silrie Sianardir locked Aucian in a maze spell as part of a trial given by Sehanine and tried to elude him with illusions over 49 days, all this did was give him supernatural pathfinding and a photographic memory. When Auican was trapped on a planet with astral seeds, the seeds merely restrained him for a time, and he was not actually harmed in any way.

Celestial Arms and Powers. Aucian wields the Riftcutter, a legendary scroll that can summon weapons made of dark matter at his mental command. He wears enchanted boots that allow him to fly by clicking their heels together, which summons a wisp of nebulous matter that he can stand upon and mentally command.
Beyond his magical weapons and martial skill, the Arvandorian Avenger has an innate grasp of magic. He knows spells that can conjure divine energy, paralyze mortals and demons, teleport himself and others over short distances, keep supernatural creatures at bay, and alter his appearance. Most impressive of all is his ability to refuse fate even when on death’s door, which allows him to push his power far past his limits. Though this power is difficult to tap into under normal circumstances, but it’s assistance can easily turn the tide of battle in the Spear of Sehanine’s favor.

Immortal Nature. Aucian Maerchrysal doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep.

Aucian is a warrior that can take on any threat to Wildspace on his own, but he can maximize his will by using his mythic traits. When this happens, Aucian taps into his own soul’s prowress and utilizes the full power of his fighting spirit - enabling him to surpass even death itself through sheer force of will.

Read or paraphrase the following text when Aucian uses one of his mythic traits:

When Aucian uses Essence of the True Hero:

What was Aucian crumbles - as he turns to stardust along with his armor and spear. Suddenly, the stardust begins to swirl in midair - as the wind picks up and the area around you begins to crackle with red lightning.

Suddenly, Aucian’s body reforms and solidify - and his voice echoes, as he starts glowing with crimson radiance. “…No… My body… it feels like it's splitting apart… at any moment… I’ll scatter into a million pieces… But… deep within my soul… there’s a burning feeling that won’t let me die!”

Moments later, a massive geyser of crimson radiance bursts erupts from his form - and as your vision returns, Aucian steps forward - though the astral elf now sports blood red heart-shaped symbols on his chestplate and gauntlets - and mithril spikes now protruding from his gauntlets. The elf then smirks, as his voice echoes. “You’re gonna have to try WAY harder than that.”

It seems Aucian has found his second wind.

When Aucian uses his Embodiment of a True Hero:

Digging his spear deep into the ground at his feet, Aucian catches his breath. For a moment, everything is quiet - the only sound louder than a breath is the hum that emanates from his spear.

Then, Aucian screams, as an explosive shockwave of crimson radiance erupts from him - pushing everyone back. As this happens, Aucian’s irises become red, as his hair takes on the appearance of red flames - while his helmet reforms and encloses his face.

In his now-crimson eyes, however, you can see a spark of divinity that wasn’t there before. Are you fighting a mere astral elf, or is this the awe-inspiring will of a god?
