Traits

Exceptional Vision and Smell. The vulture has a +10 bonus to Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.

Flyby. The vulture doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of an enemy’s reach.

Actions

Multiattack. The vulture makes two attacks with its Beak or Talons, in any combination. It can replace one attack with a use of Hurl Bile if available.

Beak. Melee Attack Roll: +4, reach 5 ft. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) Piercing damage.

Talons. Melee Attack Roll: +4, reach 5 ft. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) Slashing damage.  If the target is Medium or smaller, it is Grappled (escape DC 12). While a target is Grappled, the vulture’s Beak attacks against that target are made with advantage, and the vulture can’t attack another target. Each time the target makes a check to end the grapple, the target takes 4 (1d8) Slashing damage.

Hurl Bile (Recharge 6). Constitution Saving Throw: DC 13, each creature in a 15-ft.0long and 5-ft.-wide Line. Failure: 10 (3d6) Poison damage. Fail By 5+: The target also has Bog Fever. Success: Half damage.

Bonus Actions

Spot. The bird makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Description

With the head of a vulture and wings of a hawk, the bog vulture is an apex predator. Their throats bulge with a sac of purulent bile that they expel to externally begin digestion of their prey. With wingspans ranging up to 15 feet, they can carry Small prey back to their nests, and have even been known to try to pick up Medium creatures.

Bog vulture hunting packs are usually composed of 3-4 members, and they often start hunting by regurgitating bile on their victims and then flying out of reach of retaliation. The diseased bile renders targets sick enough for the hunting pack to observe and attack their prey again after the prey is sufficiently weakened.

Bog Fever. This disease causes intense diarrhea and a high fever, leading to dehydration. In addition, the muscles of the throat contract and cause difficulty in drinking and retaining fluids, and the infected creature must succeed a DC 10 Constitution check to successfully swallow liquids (including healing potions). At the end of every short or long rest, or whenever a source of magical or nonmagical healing would restore hit points, an infected creature must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw. On a success, the disease ends.
