Traits

Exceptional Vision and Smell. The vulture has a +10 bonus to Wisdom
(Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.

Flyby. The vulture doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks when they fly out of an enemy’s reach.

Actions

Multiattack. The vulture makes two attacks with their Beak and one attack with their Talons. They can replace one of these attacks with a use of Hurl Bile if available.

Beak. Melee Attack Roll: +4, reach 5 ft. Hit: 8 (2d4 + 3) Piercing damage.

Talons. Melee Attack Roll: +4, reach 5 ft. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) Slashing damage, and f the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 13). While a target is Grappled, the vulture’s Beak attacks against that target are made with advantage, and the vulture can’t attack another target. Each time the target makes a check to end the grapple, the target takes 4 (1d8) Slashing damage.

Hurl Bile (Recharge 6). Constitution Saving Throw: DC 13, each creature in a 15-ft.-long and 5-ft.-wide Line. Failure: 10 (3d6) Poison damage. Fail By 5+: The target also has Bog Fever. Success: Half damage.

Bonus Actions

Spot. The vulture makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Carry (Recharge 4-6). The vulture moves move up to its flying speed straight upward, lifting a creature it has Grappled, and drops the creature. The creature takes 10 (3d6) Bludgeoning damage from the fall and is Prone.

Description

With the head of a vulture and wings of a hawk, the bog vulture is an apex predator. Their throats bulge with a sac of purulent bile that they expel to externally begin digestion of their prey. With wingspans ranging up to 15 feet, they can carry Small prey back to their nests, and have even been known to try to pick up Medium creatures.

Bog vulture queens are rare female members of their species, and grow to possess 20-foot wingspans. In addition, a queen is often so bloated as to barely leave her nest, preferring to be fed by the hunters, who bring strips of meat back to the nest for her and her hatchlings.

Bog Fever. This disease causes intense diarrhea and a high fever, leading to dehydration. In addition, the muscles of the throat contract and cause difficulty in drinking and retaining fluids, and the infected creature must succeed a DC 10 Constitution check to successfully swallow liquids (including healing potions). At the end of every short or long rest, or whenever a source of magical or nonmagical healing would restore hit points, an infected creature must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw. On a success, the disease ends.
