Bamboozle Bushes live to confound travelers, delighting in sending heroes on ridiculous detours. They are polite, infuriatingly cheerful, and utterly unhelpful. Some claim these shrubs were once ordinary plants that overheard one too many riddles from gnomes and became sentient out of sheer frustration.
They rarely fight unless provoked—after all, their greatest weapon is wasting adventurers' time.
Befuddling Babble. Recharge 5-6. The Bamboozle Bush spouts a series of contradictory statements, forcing all creatures within 15 feet to make a DC 13 Intelligence saving throw or be mildly confused for 1 minute. While confused, affected creatures automatically believe any directions given by the bush, no matter how nonsensical. ("Oh, yes! The Goblin King’s fortress is just two hops, a twirl, and backwards through that quicksand pit!")
Vine Slap. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 6 (1d8+2) bludgeoning damage. The bush follows up with mocking commentary on the target’s choices in life.
Description
Mischievous Shrubbery of the Confounding Forest
False Appearance. While motionless, the Bamboozle Bush is indistinguishable from an ordinary shrub.
Endless Misdirection. The Bamboozle Bush can mimic voices and make wildly inaccurate yet confident statements. Any creature relying on the shrub for directions must make a DC 14 Wisdom (Insight) check. On a failure, they are led in pointless circles for 1d4 hours before realizing they’ve been had.
Shrub Hierarchy. The Bamboozle Bush respects authority—but only from other shrubs. A clever illusion (such as Silent Image to create a "Bigger, Bossier Shrub") grants advantage on checks to persuade or intimidate the bush into revealing the correct path.
Photosynthetic Panic. If exposed to bright light suddenly (such as Daylight or a sudden burst of fire), the Bamboozle Bush becomes confused and forgets its own lies, unintentionally pointing the party in the correct direction.
