Pristine Form. Arana Spinner does not age and cannot die from old age. While alive, her wounds heal without scars or deformities, and lost body parts or organs regenerate over weeks or months, restoring her body to its original, complete, and youthful state. She is immune to effects that cause madness and cannot be possessed by fey, fiends, or undead.
Second Skin. Arana Spinner wears a magical blue leotard that provides the same protection as leather armor and keeps her warm in cold environments. The leotard cannot be damaged or removed and prevents her from wearing any other clothing or armor. She can adjust it to expose parts of her body as long as it remains in contact with her skin.
Kindred Bond. Arana Spinner can magically form a bond with one male humanoid she can see after observing him for at least 1 minute while within 30 feet. This bond lasts until the bonded humanoid dies. While bonded, Arana Spinner understands any language he speaks, always knows his location as long as they are on the same plane of existence, and cannot harm him.
Corpse Form. When Arana Spinner dies, her body instantly becomes a desiccated corpse with her hands clasped behind her back. If her body is destroyed, it magically reforms where she fell, whole and intact, with no missing parts.
While in Corpse Form, she does not decay, cannot be turned into an undead, and can be revived at any time by a spell that restores a creature to life, such as revivify or raise dead.
Rest and Recharge. Arana Spinner regains the use of Beast Shape after a short or long rest. A long rest also restores all expended spells from her Innate Spellcasting trait.
Innate Spellcasting. Arana Spinner’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). She can innately cast the following spells at their lowest level, requiring no material components:
At will: prestidigitation
1/day each: air bubble, create food and water, feather fall, lesser restoration, remove curse, revivify, tiny hut
2/day each: cure wounds, fireball, healing word
Multiattack. Arana Spinner makes one Quarterstaff and one Unarmed Strike attack, or two Unarmed Strike attacks.
Quarterstaff. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage.
Unarmed Strike. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4 + 3) bludgeoning damage.
Beast Shape (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). Arana Spinner magically transforms into an ice spider queen.
She can remain in that form for up to 4 hours, and her equipment melds with her new form. Arana Spinner reverts to her true form if she is reduced to 0 hit points or dies. She can also revert to her true form using a bonus action.
While Arana Spinner is transformed, she retains her stat block, her current and maximum hit points, this bonus action, and her alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. She also retains her Innate Spellcasting trait and can cast spells requiring no verbal or somatic components. However, her AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and actions are replaced by those of the ice spider queen. She also gains any special senses, proficiencies, traits, actions, and reactions that the ice spider queen has but that she lacks. Additionally, her attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks.
Arana Spinner must pose with her hands to mimic the ice spider queen’s form to transform. If her hands are bound behind her back or injured, preventing her from forming the pose, she cannot transform.
Description
Arana Spinner moves with the poise of a dancer and the agility of an acrobat. Her gentle gaze belies both her prowess and her unwavering determination to aid noble adventurers. To those who earn her trust, she is an invaluable companion and a beacon of light in the darkest of times.
Combat and Utility
Arana Spinner is an adept melee combatant, striking foes with her quarterstaff and unarmed attacks. When facing a powerful melee opponent or finding herself outnumbered, she transforms into an ice spider queen. The combined effects of her Cold Aura, venomous bites, and icy webbing quickly overwhelm her foes. However, fireball—her sole offensive spell—serves as a last resort against groups of enemies or particularly resilient foes.
While she can hold her own in combat, Arana Spinner shines brightest when supporting her allies—whether using cure wounds and healing word to patch them up or remove curse and lesser restoration to undo negative effects. She can also provide a temporary shelter with tiny hut. If the party ever needs sustenance, she conjures nourishment with create food and water, and in dire situations, she can even restore a fallen ally to life with revivify.
Arana Spinner’s versatility ensures she is a welcome addition to nearly any party.
Lore of the Kalyxen Fey
Arana Spinner is a member of the Kalyxen Fey, a monogendered, all-female fey species that resemble graceful elves and half-elves. Though the Kalyxen Fey now call the Feywild home, their origins remain shrouded in mystery. Typically of good alignment, they are naturally drawn to other good-aligned creatures, compelled by an innate desire to support virtuous acts and heroism.
The Kalyxen Fey share an affinity for kindness and sweet treats. Anyone who offers both can win their favor—and, in time, their trust. With such an individual, a Kalyxen Fey may form a permanent bond, vowing to ensure his or her protection and well-being. This bond may even extend to the individual’s descendants, tying the Kalyxen Fey to their lineage. A Kalyxen Fey may also form this bond out of profound gratitude, such as being freed from imprisonment or revived from her Corpse Form. However, this innate quality makes her vulnerable to exploitation. A malevolent individual could manipulate her into forming the bond with the goal of enslaving her. Once the bond is formed, she is compelled to obey any demands unwaveringly.
A Kalyxen Fey can mate with any humanoid male to produce offspring. The child is always born a Kalyxen Fey but may inherit subtle physical traits from her father, such as eye color, skin tone, or height. The mother carries the child for nine months, but after birth, the newborn matures rapidly. Within weeks, the child grows physically and mentally to the equivalent of a young adult. Once fully matured, she remains youthful in appearance indefinitely, untouched by the passage of time.
At the moment of her birth, a Kalyxen Fey’s blue leotard manifests magically, forming around her body and adapting as she grows into adulthood. This high-cut, form-fitting garment cannot be removed or destroyed as long as she exists. It grants her complete freedom of movement, eliminating the need for other clothing and ensuring she never fears it being torn or snagged.
Each Kalyxen Fey is born with a mystical connection to a formidable beast that reflects her personality and inner nature. This bond grants her the ability to transform into that creature for a limited time. An ice spider queen embodies the cautious yet bold nature of a Kalyxen Fey, while a giant rocktopus symbolizes another’s unwavering resilience. This transformation is instinctive, allowing her to channel the essence of her bonded beast. To transform, she must strike a symbolic pose that mimics the creature’s form. If her hands are injured or bound behind her back, she is unable to form the pose, and thus cannot initiate the transformation.
Unarmed Combatant. If Arana Spinner’s hands are bound behind her back, she cannot transform into her ice spider queen form or cast spells that require somatic components. Even so, she is not entirely helpless. She can still deliver swift kicks and knee strikes to defend herself. Furthermore, she can cast spells that require only verbal components, such as healing word and feather fall, ensuring she remains a threat—even in a vulnerable state. She retains her unarmed strike attacks and all her game statistics, including her AC, ability scores, and traits, as listed in her stat block. However, her hit points are reduced to 77 (14d8 + 14), effectively lowering her to the equivalent of a CR 2 (450 XP) monster.
