Book Bound. The book wyrm can serve as a familiar, following the same rules as the Find Familiar spell, but it does not disappear when reduced to 0 HP. Instead, it immediately retreats into its companion's spellbook, re-emerging after 24 hours. If the book wyrm was reduced to 0 hit points by Fire damage, they reappear after 3 days.
Arcane Gourmand. The book wyrm can learn written text simply by touching it with its tongue. A non-magical book is learned in 1 minute, while a magical scroll takes 10 minutes and consumes the scroll. The book wyrm instantly memorizes the information and can recite it later. If it consumes a spell scroll, it can cast the spell once before it vanishes from its memory. If it uses this ability on another text, the previous text is forgotten.
Magic Resistance. The book wyrm has Advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Bite. Melee Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) Piercing damage.
Whispered Lore (1/Day). The book wyrm chooses one creature it can see within 5 ft. and grants it an additional 1d6 on Intelligence (Arcana, History, or Investigation) checks for 10 minutes.
Description
The book wyrm is a tiny construct, made from folded paper and arcane runes. They are attached to wizards' spell books and are often deemed the "student's familiar" because of how useful they are for retaining information.
