Traits

Hateful Tracker. Once selecting its target due to some unknown slight, the onagadori knows the direction and distance to its quarry as long as the two of them are on the same plane of existence. The onagadori will do anything to track down its quarry wherever they are. Because it hates them. It just hates them.

Limited Flight. If the onagadori flies on its turn, it can't fly again until it spends a turn without moving. As long as its fly speed isn't 0, however, if it falls it can descend just 60 feet per round and take no falling damage.

Flyby. The onagadori doesn’t provoke Opportunity Attacks when it moves out of an enemy’s reach.

Description

Legends say that the onagadori was a chicken bred by the gods of a forgotten pantheon. Its feathers, long and beautiful, were said to be a symbol of wealth for nobles, and the birds with the longest feathers were prized and celebrated, as were their owners. However, another legend speaks of an owner who bred a special, onyx-black onagadori, using arcane rituals while it was in the egg to ensure its beauty and longevity, as well as an impressive length of its feathers. The chick that hatched grew into a large and beautiful rooster, black as night with beautiful, two-meter-long feathers. Proud and intelligent, the rooster treasured its position as its owner's prized bird. However, during a contest, the rooster faced against a bright red onagadori, whose feathers shone as the sun, long and beautiful in their own right. The black onagadori lost the contest, and his owner lost his fleeting interest in the bird. Sent to be killed for meat, the rooster felt abandoned, disgraced...and vengeful. Escaping from the executioner's blade, the rooster ran back to his owner, only to see that he had purchased his bright red onagadori rival to replace him. Disabused on the notion of his owner's admiration and love, the rooster swore revenge. That night, the rooster crept into his owner's home in the dead of night, disguised by his black plumage. There, he pecked the man, over and over, softly enough to be ignored, but long enough to impart damage. Eventually, in that night, he pecked the man to death. He then moved onto the red rooster, fighting and killing it in revenge. Now homeless and a murderer, the black onagadori wandered the land, living its life.

In the years that passed, the rooster found that the magic rituals that created it made it unable to die from natural causes, and it became old of age, but as young as ever. Occasionally, someone would somehow offend the rooster, who was short-tempered and full of hatred. The onagadori would follow the offender home and on their adventures, pecking them over and over at the right moment, sometimes even in the midst of battle, and sometimes killing them as they laid on the battlefield. After their quarry was dead, the rooster would disappear, only to be offended again by another, and seek sweet revenge. Sometimes called the Rooster of Loathing, this is a bird fueled by nothing but vengeance. It hates you.
