Slashing Touch. If the Bladewyrm touches or is touched by another creature, the other creature takes 3d8 + 5 slashing damage. This damage is considered magical. The Bladewyrm can use this ability when it is in physical contact with another creature or when it touches the creature with one of its razor-sharp wings or feathers.

Blade of the Skies. The Bladewyrm can pass through a creature’s space while flying. When it does, the creature takes 3d6 slashing damage, plus an additional 1d6 for every 10 feet the Bladewyrm has traveled prior to moving through the creature's space on its turn (up to a maximum of 6d6). If the damage reduces the creature to 0 hit points, they suffer one automatic failure on death saving throws and gain 1 level of exhaustion. If the damage instantaneously kills the creature (i.e., damage exceeds their maximum HP), the creature is cut in half at the waist. If revived by any means, the creature returns without any lower body (no legs, waist down). They can take actions and move, but cannot move faster than half their movement speed. Full restoration requires greater restoration or similar magic.

Flyby. The Bladewyrm doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks when it flies out of a creature's reach.

Sunlight Sensitivity & Darkvision. The Bladewyrm has disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when it is in bright light. However, it can see in magical and non-magical darkness up to 200 feet. This allows the Bladewyrm to perfectly navigate and hunt in the dark, but it is weakened in areas of bright light, making it more vulnerable during the day or in well-lit environments.

Actions

Razor Slash. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 22 (4d6 + 6) slashing damage.

Bonus Actions

Frenzied Dash (Recharge 2). The Bladewyrm can double its movement speed for 1 round. While this ability is active, treat any damage rolls against objects or structures as though they dealt their maximum damage. The Bladewyrm can move through creatures, objects, and structures as if they were difficult terrain, and it has advantage on attack rolls.

Reactions

Razor Escape. If the Bladewyrm is grappled, it can use its reaction to immediately escape the grapple. The Bladewyrm moves up to 15 feet without provoking opportunity attacks, slashing any creature it moves through. Each creature within 5 feet of the Bladewyrm during this movement must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 15), taking 2d6 slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful save. The Bladewyrm can use this ability only once per turn.

Description

Description: The Bladewyrm is a nocturnal, bird-like creature whose body is composed of jagged, razor-sharp feathers instead of traditional plumes. These metallic-like wings cut through the air with terrifying speed and precision, leaving a deadly wake in their path. Its body is sleek and streamlined, built for high-speed flight, and its talons are as sharp as its wings. Despite its appearance, the Bladewyrm is not a typical bird of prey. It moves like a ghost in the dark, its presence barely noticeable until it’s too late. The Bladewyrm has glowing eyes that shine faintly in the darkness, making it a terrifying sight in dimly lit environments.

As a nocturnal predator, it hunts under the cover of night, using the shadows to its advantage. The Bladewyrm glides silently through the darkness, its body phasing in and out of visibility as it prepares to strike. When it does attack, its sharp feathers tear through flesh, leaving deep, precise cuts that are difficult to heal. Its attack style is quick and ruthless, and it often strikes from the shadows before its prey has a chance to react.

Lore: The Bladewyrm is an ancient creature whose origins are shrouded in mystery. Long ago, it was created as a weapon of war, meant to instill fear in the hearts of enemies with its unparalleled speed and deadly precision. Over time, however, it grew independent and became a solitary predator, seeking out areas of conflict, darkness, and chaos. It is drawn to the shadows, preferring the cover of night to strike, where its razor-sharp feathers blend into the darkness, making it nearly impossible to detect until it's too late.

Legends say that the Bladewyrm was once an agent of destruction, used to bring swift and terrifying death to entire armies. However, after the war it was created for ended, the Bladewyrm became a myth—a creature of the dark, feared and rarely seen. The Bladewyrm is now known to hunt in the dark of night, preying on those who wander too close to its lair or stumble into the places where its presence is felt. Its eyes glow faintly, piercing the night as it watches for the perfect moment to strike.

Some cultures believe that the Bladewyrm is a creature that feeds off chaos and conflict. It is rumored that the creature is not merely a predator but a force of nature that thrives on the destruction it causes. Wherever battle or ruin is most intense, the Bladewyrm may appear—silent, deadly, and seemingly impossible to stop. Its attacks are swift and precise, using the cover of darkness to slip through enemy lines and tear apart its prey with unmatched ferocity.

Though the Bladewyrm is not invincible, it is incredibly dangerous in the dark. Many who have encountered it speak of its chilling silence, its glowing eyes appearing from the shadows before it strikes. The Bladewyrm is not a creature to be trifled with. It attacks without warning, leaving only destruction in its wake.

Some say that the Bladewyrm is an omen—an indicator that something terrible is about to happen. When it appears, it is a sign that conflict is imminent, or that a great catastrophe is on the horizon. It is a creature of the night, and though it is not invincible, it thrives in darkness, using the shadows to strike with deadly efficiency.
