Traits

Spore Aura.

At the start of each of the Seed-Mother’s turns, each creature within 10 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (3d6) poison damage and become infected (see below).

Infection (Seeded).
A creature infected by the Seed-Mother must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw at the end of each long rest. On a failure, they gain one level of Seeding:

  1. Level 1: Headaches and coughing; disadvantage on Constitution checks.

  2. Level 2: Small fungal growths on the skin; disadvantage on Charisma checks.

  3. Level 3: Can hear the Seed-Mother's voice; must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw each dawn or obey one whispered command.

  4. Level 4: Constitution score drops by 2; the character begins mutating visibly.

  5. Level 5: Death and rebirth as a Seeded Husk under DM control.

Mother of Spores (Recharge 6).
When reduced to 0 HP, the Seed-Mother explodes in a 30-foot radius cloud of spores. Creatures in that area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or be blinded, poisoned, and infected (as above). On success, they are only poisoned until the end of their next turn.

Actions

Multiattack.
The Seed-Mother makes two Tendril Lash attacks and can cast Sporesurge if available.

Tendril Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target.
Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.

Sporebomb (Recharge 5–6).
She hurls a writhing fungal sac at a point she can see within 60 feet. It bursts in a 20-foot-radius cloud. Creatures in the area must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 21 (6d6) poison damage and become poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned this way, a creature can’t regain hit points.

Sporesurge (1/day).
The Seed-Mother commands the fungus inside a creature. One infected target she can see within 60 feet must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or become paralyzed for 1 minute as fungal roots bind their body. They can repeat the save at the end of each turn.

Lair and Lair Actions

Lair of the Seed-Mother

Also known as the Blooming Deep
Location: Beneath the sunken roots of the Bog of Thorns, a fetid chamber of rotting vegetation, pulsing fungal growths, and a central mass where the Seed-Mother sleeps and spreads her roots.

🌿 Lair Traits

The Seed-Mother’s lair is a living ecosystem, and it reacts violently to intrusion.

While within the lair, the following effects apply:

  • Spore-Filled Air: At the start of each creature’s turn (other than The Seed-Mother or Seeded), it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion. On a success, they are immune for 1 hour.

  • Whispers in the Roots: Any Wisdom (Perception) or Intelligence (Investigation) checks made within the lair are made with disadvantage, as faint voices murmur from walls, soil, and fungus.

  • Symbiotic Terrain: The terrain is difficult and shifting. Roots move underfoot, fungi burst or collapse. The Seed-Mother and Seeded allies ignore difficult terrain in the lair.

  • Fungal Rebirth: If a creature dies in the lair, its body animates in 1d4 rounds as a Spore Thrall (use Zombie stats with 1d4 psychic damage on hit and immunity to charm/frighten). Lasts 1 hour or until destroyed.

🌾 Lair Actions

The Seed-Mother can take 1 lair action per round on initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties). She cannot use the same action two rounds in a row.

1. Spore Bloom (Recharge 5–6)

A 30-foot radius centered anywhere in the lair erupts in toxic bloom. Creatures in the area must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 6d6 poison damage and become blinded until the end of their next turn. On success, half damage and no blindness.

2. Puppet Roots

The Seed-Mother animates the roots beneath a creature. One creature within 60 feet must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be restrained until the end of the next round.

3. Spores of Memory

Fungal spores flood a 20-ft area. All creatures within must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or relive a hallucinated memory, becoming stunned until the end of their next turn. On success, they instead gain disadvantage on their next Wisdom check or saving throw.

🌙 Regional Effects

The Seed-Mother’s influence extends into the region above. These effects fade 1d10 days after her death:

  • Fungal Overgrowth: Mushrooms and pale moss grow rapidly in a 6-mile radius, even over stone and flesh. The growth pulses faintly at night.

  • Rotting Womb of the Earth: Animals born within 6 miles are often stillborn or born with strange fungal growths. Some walk anyway.

  • Dream Seeding: Locals experience dreams of being buried and growing, waking up with strange soil under their nails and fungal bruising.
