Charge. If the Arctodus Bear moves at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with an attack on the same turn, the target must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes an additional 7 (2d6) damage and it is knocked Prone.
Keen Smell. The Arctodus Bear has Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and (Survival) checks that involve smell.
Multiattack. The Arctodus Bear can make three attacks: one with its Bite and two with its Claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8+6) Piercing damage. On a hit, if the target is size Medium or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target is Grappled by the Arctodus Bear’s Bite. A creature Grappled in this way can use their action to make a DC 17 Strength (Athletics) or a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (creature’s choice), freeing itself on a success. The Arctodus Bear can only grapple one target with its Bite at a time. While the Arctodus Bear has a target Grappled, it can only Bite attack the Grappled target.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6+6) Slashing damage.
Kill Shake. As an action, if the Arctodus Bear has a target Grappled with its Bite, it violently shakes the creature. The Grappled creature must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 42 (8d8+6) Slashing damage. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage. If the creature fails its saving throw by 5 or more, it is also Stunned until the start of the Arctodus Bear’s next turn.
Description
Arctodus Bears are extremely dangerous bears. They have long legs and a short, wide muzzle with powerful jaws. Black ring-like markings mask its eyes.
The Arctodus Bear - usually known simply as the Short Faced Bear, Long Bear, or Great Bear by the tribes who share their home - is one of the largest and most aggressive carnivores of the continent, and one of the biggest bears that has ever lived. A typical Arctodus Bear stands about 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) at the shoulder while on all fours, and up to 4.1 meters (13 ft 5 in) tall on their rear legs. They weigh about 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lbs).
It is a fast sprinter with good endurance, and usually runs down its prey on open ground. The bear is also known to aggressively drive lesser predators from their kills, and Mammoth hunters in the Lands of Starling frequently have a harder time dealing with a scavenging bear than killing the Mammoth in the first place.
