Traits

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Vergil fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Demonic Vitality. Vergil’s half-demon heritage grants him resistance to cold and fire, immunity to poison, and rapid healing. At the start of his turn, if he has at least 1 hit point, he regains 10 hit points.

Innate Spellcasting. Vergil’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17, +9 to hit with spell attacks). He can cast the following spells innately, requiring no material components:

  • At will: eldritch blast (4 beams, flavored as summoned swords, deals force damage), prestidigitation

  • 3/day each: misty step (teleport slash), shield (parry), spiritual weapon (summoned swords)

  • 1/day each: dimension door (rapid teleport), haste (accelerated strikes), steel wind strike (Dimension Slash)

Precision Striker. Vergil’s attacks are unnervingly accurate. His weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19–20. Additionally, when he hits with a melee attack, he can choose to deal an extra 7 (2d6) force damage (included in the attack).

Actions

Multiattack. Vergil makes three Katana attacks or two Katana attacks and one Summoned Swords attack. He can replace one attack with a spell or a teleport (as misty step).

Katana (Force Edge). Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 7) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) force damage. On a critical hit, the target must succeed on a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Summoned Swords. Vergil conjures spectral blades to strike a target. Ranged Spell Attack: +9 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (3d6 + 3) force damage. Vergil can target up to three creatures within 10 feet of each other with this attack, making a separate attack roll for each.

Judgment Cut. Vergil teleports up to 30 ft. without provoking opportunity attacks and unleashes a flurry of slashes in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw, taking 35 (10d6) slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful save.

Reactions

Parry. When Vergil is hit by a melee attack, he can use his reaction to add +5 to his AC against that attack. If the attack misses, Vergil can make one Katana attack against the attacker as part of the same reaction.

Counter Slash. When a creature within 5 feet of Vergil casts a spell, he can use his reaction to make a Katana attack against that creature. If the attack hits, the creature must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or lose concentration on the spell.

Legendary Actions

Vergil can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be taken at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Vergil regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

Teleport. Vergil casts misty step or moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Katana Strike (Costs 2 Actions). Vergil makes one Katana attack.
Devil Trigger (Costs 3 Actions). Vergil activates his Devil Trigger, transforming into a demonic form for 1 minute. While in this form, he gains the following benefits:

  • His AC increases by 2.

  • His melee attacks deal an extra 10 (3d6) cold damage.

  • He can use Judgment Cut as a bonus action once per turn.
Vergil can end this effect early as a bonus action. Once used, he cannot use it again until he finishes a long rest.

Description

Vergil, the eldest son of the demon Sparda and human Eva, is a master swordsman driven by a thirst for power and order. Wielding his katana, Force Edge, and conjuring spectral blades, he strikes with unparalleled precision and speed. His calm, disciplined demeanor belies his demonic strength, which he unleashes in his Devil Trigger form. Vergil seeks to surpass all limits, often clashing with his brother Dante, yet his actions hint at a deeper code of honor.
