Leafform Camouflage. While motionless in foliage or among tree branches, the Viperleaf Drake has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and appears indistinguishable from the leaves and hanging vines around it. Its scaly feathers shift in hue and texture to match its environment like a chameleon. Spotting the drake’s presence requires a DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check. Recognizing it as a dragon rather than a harmless snake or tangle of plant matter requires a successful DC 18 Intelligence (Nature) check.
Arboreal Flier. The Viperleaf Drake has a flying speed of 60 feet and moves without making noise. It can cling to trees and vertical surfaces without making ability checks, and may take the Hide action as a bonus action while in dim light or lightly obscured terrain.
Multiattack. The Viperleaf Drake makes three attacks: one with its Bite and two with its Tail Whip.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.
Tail Whip. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Snareglob Breath (Recharge 5–6). The drake expels a glob of sticky, venomous mucus at a point it can see within 60 feet. The glob explodes in a 10-foot-radius sphere. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. A creature that fails the save is also restrained until the end of its next turn as the mucus adheres to them.
This mucus does not affect the drake itself.
Silent Stalk. The Viperleaf Drake may take the Hide action as a bonus action while in dim light or lightly obscured terrain.
Whip Around. When a flying creature enters a space within 10 feet of the Viperleaf Drake, it may use its reaction to make a Bite or, if charged, a Snareglob Breath attack against that creature.
Description
Description. The Viperleaf Drake is a Small dragon that dwells in the dense canopies of humid, overgrown jungles. With a serpentine body, leaf-patterned wings, and color-shifting scales, it blends seamlessly into the treetops — often mistaken for vines or hanging foliage even at close range.
This elusive predator drapes itself across branches or coils among leaves, waiting motionless until prey passes nearby. Its long, flexible neck and surprising reach allow it to strike from unexpected angles, often before its victim knows it's there. When threatened or on the hunt, it unleashes its signature snareglob breath — a sticky orb of venomous mucus that explodes on contact, trapping foes in place for the drake to finish off.
Though not massive, the Viperleaf Drake’s speed, reach, and cunning make it a nightmare for both predators and prey. It is a master of camouflage, ambush, and retreat — striking swiftly and disappearing just as fast.

Posted Sep 26, 2025I love the viperleaf drake, it just inspired me to make something similar but not too similar, maybe a viper drake that has a frill, and of course a long snake like body
