Traits

Cannibalistic Nature: The Wendigo can consume only consume the flesh of the species it evolved from. In addition, When it eats this flesh, it regains hit points equal to half the creature’s remaining hit points. 

Leap: The Wendigo leaps onto one creature within 60 ft of it. For this to happen, the Wendigo must have climbed up at least 10 ft off the ground. 

Pyrophobia: If the Wendigo sees fire of any kind it becomes Frightened of the fire and can only take the Dash action on each of its turns until it cannot see the fire. 

 True-Seeing: The Wendigo ignores the Lightly Obscured and Heavily Obscured benefits granted by its Regional Effects. 

Actions

Multiattack: The Wendigo makes 4 attacks, all with its Claw attack. It can substitute any of these attacks for a Bite attack. It also uses Shrieking Wail if available. 

Bite: Melee Weapon Attack, 5 ft reach, +19 to hit. On hit: 30 (3d12 + 10) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage. This damage ignores resistances and immunities to piercing damage and poison damage.

Claw: Melee Weapon Attack, 10 ft reach, +19 to hit. On hit: 26 (2d10 + 10) slashing damage. This damage ignores resistances and immunities to slashing damage. 

Leap: Melee Weapon Attack, 10 ft reach, +19 to hit. On hit: 26 (2d10 + 10) slashing damage plus 6d6 bludgeoning damage. This damage ignores resistances and immunities to slashing damage. 

Shrieking Wail (Recharge 6): All creatures (except other Wendigos) must make a DC 27 WIS save. On a failure, the creature is stunned for one minute and takes 5d12 psychic damage. On a success, the creature isn’t stunned and takes half damage. 

Bonus Actions

Devour: The Wendigo eats the flesh of one creature within 15 feet of it. If the creature is alive, it loses one quarter of its maximum hit points. If the creature is of the same species as the Wendigo, reduce its maximum hit points by a quarter.

Bash: Trigger: A creature making a melee attack within 10 ft of the Wendigo. The creature takes 26 (2d10 + 10) bludgeoning damage and is thrown 1d10 + 10 feet away, landing prone. 

Description

Wendigos are made when a humanoid creature turns to regular cannibalism (excluding Constructs and Undead). They are tall, standing between 8 and 12 feet tall depending on the species. They have long arms and legs and are extremely fast. 

Lair and Lair Actions

A Wendigo’s lair can be anything from a cave, abandoned mineshaft, or patch of forest to a derelict house, small village, or a disused area of a city. 

Lair Actions

On initiative count 18 (losing initiative ties) the Wendigo can take a lair action to invoke one of the following effects:

  • Every creature in the lair (except the Wendigo) takes 1d10 psychic damage at the start of each of their turns for the next round
  • One creature of the Wendigos choice is frightened of the Wendigo for one minute, or until the creature is out of its lair. The creature can only move towards the exit of the lair that it came in. 
  • The Wendigo regains half of its remaining hit points.

Regional Effects

The following effects take place 1 mile from the Wendigo’s lair:

  • The temperature drops 1d10 degrees
  • The ground is considered Rough Terrain
  • The area is Lightly Obscured.

The following effects take place inside the Wendigo’s lair:

  • The temperature drops another 1d10 degrees 
  • The ground is considered Difficult Terrain
  • The area is Heavily Obscured.
