Gravefruit Bloom (Recharge 5–6) The Appleknell attempts to bury a Grappled creature alive under the orchard, triggering stage 1 of this ability. On each of the Appleknell's subsequent turns, it may trigger the next stage.
Stage 1 – Rootbind
The Appleknell’s roots tighten. The grappled creature is dragged 5 feet downward as the ground beneath them opens into a rotting root-chamber.

To escape the grapple this turn, the creature must succeed on a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) check.
Stage 2 – Entombing Descent
The roots twist and pull, drawing the creature another 5 feet deeper. Half of the creature’s body is now beneath the surface. The walls of the pit close slightly.

Stage 3 – Burial Maw
The creature is dragged fully beneath the surface, swallowed into a pulsing knot of roots and muck just below the soil. Only a hand or a scrap of clothing remains visible.

If not freed by the end of the Appleknell’s next turn, the creature is fully buried and begins to suffocate.
Multiattack. The appleknell makes two attacks.
Splintering Grasp. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 10 ft. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 3) Bludgeoning damage. If the target is a Medium or smaller creature, the creature must make a Strength saving throw (DC 14) or become Grappled.
Rotting Apple Volley. Ranged Attack Roll: +4, range 30/60 ft. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 2) Bludgeoning damage plus 6 (2d4) Poison damage.
Enchanted Sleep. As a reaction, the Appleknell can target one creature hit by Rotting Apple Volley. The target must make a Consitution saving throw (DC 13) or fall Unconscious as if under the effects of Sleep.
