Trait Name: Astral Step (1/Short Rest)
Description:
As a bonus action, the Astral Chicken phases partially into the Astral Plane. Until the end of its next turn, it and its rider can move through other creatures’ spaces without provoking opportunity attacks. The chicken gains resistance to all damage except force. The rider glows with stardust and feathers, gaining advantage on the next Dexterity saving throw they make before the effect ends. If the chicken is reduced to 0 hit points or the rider dismounts, the effect ends early.
Trait Name: Summon from the Astral Coop (1/Day)
Description:
As an action, a bonded rider can summon the Astral Chicken from the Astral Plane. It appears in an unoccupied space within 10 feet of the summoner. It remains until it is dismissed as a bonus action or is reduced to 0 hit points, at which point it vanishes in a puff of silvery feathers.
Trait Name: Bonded Steed
Description:
The Astral Chicken is innately attuned to its rider. While mounted, the rider can use a bonus action to command the chicken to take the Dash, Disengage, or Dodge action. The chicken shares the rider’s initiative and moves on the rider’s turn.
Trait Name: Cosmic Understanding
Description:
The Astral Chicken always knows its precise location in the multiverse, including its orientation in planar space. This knowledge cannot be shared in a straightforward way, but the chicken will cluck ominously if you’re about to step into a dimensional rift.
Trait Name: Spellcasting (Astral Feathers)
Description:
The Astral Chicken is a 5th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 16, +6 to hit with spell attacks). It adds it's rider's proficiency bonus to BKAW!, and can cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
Cantrips (at will): Mage Hand, Feather Fall, Eldritch Blast (reflavored as “BKAW!”)
2nd level (3 slots): Misty Step, See Invisibility
Action Name: Peck
Description:
Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage.
Action Name: BKAW!
Description:
Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 120 ft., one target.
Hit: 6 (1d10 + Rider's Proficiency Bonus) force damage.
A burst of crackling, prismatic feathers and psychic sound erupts from the chicken's beak.
Bonus Action Name: Astral Step
Description:
The Astral Chicken phases partially into the Astral Plane. Until the end of its next turn, it and its rider can move through other creatures’ spaces without provoking opportunity attacks. The chicken gains resistance to all damage except force. The rider gains advantage on the next Dexterity saving throw they make before the effect ends. This ability can be used once per short rest.
Reaction Name: Interplanar Flutter
Description:
When the Astral Chicken or its rider is targeted by an attack and not incapacitated, the chicken can flutter sideways through dimensional space, imposing disadvantage on the triggering attack roll. The chicken must see the attacker to use this reaction.
Description
A large, otherworldly bird wrapped in shimmering feathers that glint with unnatural colors, as though reflecting light from a realm beyond mortal comprehension. Its eyes gleam with ancient intelligence, and its movements leave trails of ghostly feathers that vanish moments later. Though it communicates only in clucks, squawks, and the occasional unsettling coo of knowing, the Astral Chicken understands all languages and shares a telepathic bond with its chosen rider.
These rare beings are sacred to the Coop of the One True Chicken—a reclusive and fanatical cosmic order of clerics and druids who believe the universe was hatched from the First Egg, laid in the silence before time began. The order teaches that all life spirals back toward the Shell, and that feathers are fragments of fate. Astral Chickens are seen as divine messengers and companions, summoned to serve those chosen by yolk and star alike. Though not bred for combat, they serve loyally, guiding their riders through planar hazards and spiritual trials alike with unnerving clarity and the occasional psychic BKAW! of warning.
