Limited Telepathy. The platypus can magically communicate
simple ideas, emotions, and images telepathically with any
creature within 100 feet of it that can understand a language.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 3 (1d4 + 1) Piercing damage.
Staggering Shriek (Recharge 6). Each creature within 10
feet that can hear the platypus must succeed on a DC 11
Constitution saving throw or until the end of its next turn, it
must choose whether it gets an action, a bonus action, or a
move on its turn; it gets only one of the three.
Spellwarp (3/Day). When a creature the platypus can see
within 60 feet casts a spell, the platypus forces the caster
to make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 10 + the
spell’s level. On a failure, the caster is affected in one of the
following ways, determined by rolling a d4:
- After the spell is cast, any spells or magical effects on the
creature ends and the creature can’t cast spell other than
cantrips until the end of its next turn. - After the spell is cast, the creature vanishes to the Ethereal
Plane as with the Blink spell. It returns from the Ethereal
Plane at the start of its next turn. - After the spell is cast, the creature is teleported in a
random direction to the furthest away unoccupied space
within 30 feet of it. To determine the direction, roll a d8
and assign a direction to each die face. - The spell takes effect as if it was cast using a spell slot one
level higher
Description
The azurecrest platypus is known for its adorable
appearance and bewildering abilities. The platypus has
tawny fur, radiant blue webbed feet, and a golden and
azure colored plume.
Chaotic Shrieker
Azurecrests are tempestuous and can emit shrieks that
disorient other creatures. More notably, its presence
warps magic, making it both beloved and feared by
spellcasters. Scholars believe that this trait evolved
as a defense mechanism against magical predators.
Azurecrests tend to be cautious around magic and
those who wield it.
Bond of Curiosity
Although most azurecrests are solitary, they
occasionally bond with intelligent creatures, if they
believe they may benefit from the partnership. Their
needs are rather simple; they enjoy excitement and
exotic snacks and are curious at their core, even if they
sometimes act erratic, especially around magic.
