Soothing Presence. When the baku is within 10 feet of a creature that is frightened or unable to sleep, that creature has advantage on saving throws against those conditions and can fall asleep normally, even under magical interference. Creatures that finish a short or long rest within range of the baku recover one additional hit die.
Dreamward. While its bonded master is asleep, the baku creates a protective aura in a 10-foot radius. Creatures within the aura are immune to nightmares, magical sleep disruption, and any spell or effect that targets the mind (such as dream, nightmare, or dominate person). The baku remains alert and watchful but cannot take actions beyond maintaining this ward.
Peaceful Spirit. The baku cannot be summoned or remain present during combat. If combat begins while the baku is active, it immediately vanishes into the Feywild without using an action. It cannot be summoned again until combat has fully ended and one minute has passed.
The baku cannot be summoned by any means during combat, including through spells such as find familiar, conjure woodland beings, or similar magic. Its presence is tied to peace, not violence.
Fey Refuge. As an action, the baku opens a shimmering portal to a personal pocket dimension in the Feywild, visible only to its bonded master. This sanctuary is a calm, 10-foot cube of ethereal space. Only the bonded individual may enter or perceive it.
The portal lasts for up to 8 hours or until the master exits.
The baku must remain within 60 feet of the portal to sustain it.
The space is meant for rest, meditation, and light storage—not combat.
The refuge cannot be accessed by others, even if bonded to the same baku.
This ability may be used at will but cannot be opened while the baku is unconscious, incapacitated, or further than 60 feet from its master.
Description
Baku are devoted guardians of sleep and dream. When summoned, they radiate a calming presence, helping nearby creatures drift into peaceful rest. While their master sleeps, the baku keeps silent watch, shielding them from nightmares and intrusive magic.
Though deeply magical, baku are not combatants. They do not attack or defend with force, relying instead on their protective aura and dream-magic. Their true gift lies in their connection to the Feywild—they can open a portal to a personal pocket dimension hidden within that realm. Each individual bonded to a baku gains access to their own private refuge. These sanctuaries are unique and sealed; even those sharing the same baku cannot enter each other’s space.
The Baku can be summoned by find familiar even though it is not a beast.
