Description

Bertha was the result of a fey attempting to make somebody that dealt with the complaints of bugs so he didn't have to. Bertha is around 30 feet tall and 50 feet long, with the blue magic crystals growing out of her and wears a little crown and scepter she traded a nearby bronze dragon for. She is the ruler of "Beeritan" the largest hive in the area, and handles all of the issues the nearby insects have. She always strives for peace and diplomacy, and even when forced to fight never kills anyone without giving them a chance to surrender. Strangely enough, the crystals the old fey left boosts the intelligence of creatures innately connected with nature.

Lair and Lair Actions

A flowery meadow with small hives all around with one massive hive in the center. The meadow is covered in flowers and small crystals, and is around 30 by 30 miles in size. The hive is half underground and half above, with the above area being 1000 ft. tall and 300 ft. in radius. The underground tunnels are all circular and 600 ft. in diameter, and studded with the magic crystals.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Bertha takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; Bertha can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  •  A nearby swarm passes through in a 5 foot strip and lands on foes. The victim is blinded, and if they move, they take 5d4 poison damage.
  • A passing bee swarm drops honey , restraining any who get hit until they succeed on a dc 10 dexterity check. If it doesn't hit, a 5 foot square now restrains any who walk over it.
  • A bear appears. It just wants to eat some honey, and isn't innately aggressive, however it will attack anyone with food on them.
  • A crystal pops, and all within 10 feet or below the crystal who fail a dex save must roll on the wild magic surge table.

Regional Effects

The region containing Bertha's lair is covered with magical crystals, intelligent bees and flowers, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • The area outside is difficult terrain, as if you step on the flowers the bees sting you. The area inside halves your walking speed as it's sticky.
  • All druids, lizardfolk, aarakocras and tabaxis gain +1 intelligence the first time they take any rests in the area
  • If you compliment the area(as long as you are good aligned), a bee brings out a beeswax capsule of Bertha's honey(upon being consumed, gives double speed for 1 minute and 1d10+1 temp hp.)
  • The crystals that stud the area randomly change the damage type of magic ranged attacks like fireball or magic missle if they are hit.

If Bertha dies, these effects fade over the course of 3d100 days.
