Traits

Psychic Resonance. Any creature that starts its turn within 10 ft. of the Void Dune Maw must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on their next attack roll as their thoughts are clouded.

Astral Glide. The Void Dune Maw can “swim” through the silvery mists of the Astral Plane as though it were water, leaving no trace.

Mind Leech. When the Void Dune Maw deals psychic damage, it regains hit points equal to half the psychic damage dealt.

Astral Mount. Like its desert kin, Void Dune Maws can be bound as mounts by powerful astral riders. Doing so requires a special planar harness of silver and psionically attuned crystal, along with three successful DC 20 Arcana checks spread across a long ritual. If successful, the rider forms a telepathic bond with the creature.

Actions

Multiattack. The Void Dune Maw makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Psychic Lash.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8+4) piercing damage.

Psychic Lash. Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 60 ft., one creature. Hit: 21 (4d8+2) psychic damage.

Mindquake (Recharge 5–6). The Void Dune Maw unleashes a pulse of psychic force in a 20-ft. radius centered on itself. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw or take 27 (6d8) psychic damage and be stunned until the start of their next turn. On a successful save, they take half damage and aren’t stunned.

Description

Where the deserts of the Material Plane birth the Obsidian Dune Maw, the Void Dune Maw swims through the shimmering tides of the Astral Sea. Its body glimmers with fractured, crystalline scales that reflect motes of starlight, and its jaw is lined with obsidian-like shards that shimmer violet. Instead of grinding stone, its movements are accompanied by a resonant hum, as though the air itself were vibrating with psychic pressure.

Void Dune Maws are less animalistic than their terrestrial cousins. They are drawn toward thought and memory, feeding on psychic residue left behind by travelers in the Astral Plane. Some scholars speculate they are “dream-echoes” of the Obsidian Dune Maw, pulled into existence by the overlapping of mortal thought and elemental energy.

Astral sailors dread encountering a Void Dune Maw because it does not merely devour flesh—it feeds on minds, leaving victims hollow-eyed and memory-drained.
