Spider Climb. The spider can climb difficult surfaces, including along ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Web Walker. The spider ignores movement restrictions caused by webs, and it knows the location of any other creature in contact with the same web.
Molted Terror. When Azythra emerges from Thryxis’s husk, all creatures within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of their next turn.
Broodmother. Once per round as a bonus action, Azythra can summon 2d4 Broodlings (use Spider stats, but with 1d6 necrotic bite instead of poison). They act on her initiative.
Fragile Body. Azythra has fewer defenses than her dragon host. She takes double damage from critical hits.
Multi-attack. Azythra makes two attacks: one with her Mandibles and one with her Legs.
-
Mandibles. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d10+5) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) necrotic damage. Target must succeed on a DC 18 Con save or be poisoned for 1 minute.
-
Legs. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8+5) slashing damage. On hit, target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength save or be knocked prone.
-
Web Spray (Recharge 5–6). Azythra sprays necrotic webs in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 17 Dex save or take 45 (10d8) necrotic damage and be restrained. Restrained creatures repeat the save at the end of their turn.
-
Spawn Egg Burst (Recharge 6). Azythra ruptures her abdomen, releasing swarms. Each creature within 20 feet must make a DC 17 Con save or take 27 (6d8) poison damage and be blinded until the start of their next turn. In addition, 2d6 Swarm of Spiders appear in unoccupied spaces within 30 feet.
Brood Summon (1/round). Azythra summons 2d4 broodlings in unoccupied spaces within 10 ft. of it.
- Tiny Aberration, CE
- AC 13, HP 7, MOV 30
- STR 6, DEX 14, CON 10, INT 2, WIS 10, CHA 3
- ATK: Bite +4 (1d6+1 piercing + 1d6 poison, DC 11 CON or poisoned)
- Traits: Spider Climb, Pack Tactics, Darkvision 60ft.
Parasitic Retaliation. When struck by a melee attack in Spider form, Azythra may release a necrotic pulse. The attacker must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (3d6) necrotic damage.
Azythra can take 3 legendary actions, only one at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn:
-
Leg Attack. Azythra makes one Leg attack.
-
Broodling Command. All broodlings within 30 feet can move up to half their speed and make one bite attack.
-
Brood Burst. Spawn 1–2 broodlings.
-
Skitter. Move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
-
Necrotic Web Pulse (Costs 2). Azythra pulses necrotic webbing. Each creature within 15 feet must succeed on a DC 18 Dex save or take 18 (4d8) necrotic damage and be restrained until the end of their next turn.
Parasitic Overdrive. When reduced to 50 HP or fewer, Azythra gains advantage on all attacks and summons double broodlings until she dies.
Description
Azythra, the Widow of Flesh, is the parasitic spider that consumed and reanimated the dragon Thryxis. Once the husk collapses, she emerges in a grotesque blend of spider and dragon remains. She is more vicious and aggressive than her host body but physically less durable, relying on brood swarms and necrotic webbing to overwhelm her prey.
Molted Malice (Phase Transition). When Azythra first emerges, all creatures within 30 ft. must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or take 4d10 necrotic damage and become poisoned until the end of their next turn.
Lair and Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing ties), Azythra can use one of the following lair actions (can’t use the same one two rounds in a row):
-
Webs crawl across the lair; all terrain within 30 feet becomes difficult terrain until initiative 20 on the next round.
-
Necrotic ichor drips from the ceiling. All enemies within 20 feet of a broodling take 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
-
Egg sacs rupture. 1d4 Swarms of Spiders appear in unoccupied spaces within 20 feet of Azythra.
