Charming. The Alluring Shade can charm creatures normally resistant to charm effects.
Regenerating Soul. Regains 3 hit points at the start of each of its turns.
Vulnerable Soul. When the Alluring Shade is destroyed, only its soul is unmade; its physical body cannot be reanimated, possessed, or revived by any means.
Charming Pendulum. The Shade manifests a hypnotic pendulum before one creature within 5 ft. That creature must succeed on a Wisdom contest against the Shade (no modifiers, DC 15 minimum) or become charmed.
If the target is already charmed or has previously failed this contest, it instead becomes controlled for 3 rounds. A controlled creature’s movement and attacks are directed by the Shade (it cannot cast spells). The Shade immediately Fades for the duration of the control but does not become stunned afterward.
Cry. The Shade wails. Each hostile creature in combat has disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of the Shade’s next turn, and the Shade heals 5 HP.
Scratch. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., two targets. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage, and the Shade heals 3 HP per target hit.
Transformation. The target perceives the Shade as its deepest desire. It must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed. On a success, the Shade is stunned until the end of its next turn.
Possess Object. The Shade merges with an inanimate object, becoming invulnerable while inside it. It can exit at will. Destroying the object forces the Shade to reform.
Create Riches. Creates an illusory treasure or valuable item. A creature that attempts to use, spend, or wear the illusion is marked by the Shade and takes 1.5× damage from the Shade’s attacks thereafter.
Brace (1/round). When attacked by a slower creature, the Shade gains +2 AC until the end of the round but has disadvantage on its next turn. Cannot be used against spell attacks.
Fade. Triggered when the Shade takes 7 or more damage from a single attack. It becomes incorporeal and stunned for 2 rounds; all attacks pass harmlessly through it. When the effect ends, it becomes prone.
Description
A shadowy, semi-corporeal figure with an unnervingly perfect form, the Alluring Shade embodies the lost beauty or desire of a mortal soul. Though it may appear male, female, or otherwise, it is always seductively idealized—a reflection of what each victim most longs for. The Shade feeds not on blood, but on attention and affection, drawing power from hearts it twists into obsession.
The Alluring Shade’s downfall is its need to be adored: once ignored or resisted, it often breaks down in shrieking despair, its tears warping the air around it.
